Help on Choosing a second hand rib
Hi,
We have moved to Crete last year and I am now looking for a second hand rib, I have been looking at various boats on the local buy anything web site called car.gr for about a year now !
I have passed my powerboat course and got a ICC and my VHF licence I did both of these at Poole before we left.
I am looking for something that I can use for fishing, taking family to land locked beaches, and even a bit of island hopping.
Boats and everything else like cars are very expensive here, I have looked into importing a boat but the re-registering into a greek flag is a nightmare and very expensive so that's a non-starter.
I have narrowed down my search to :
Boat Year Price Hours HP Length Engine
Corbra Nantique 2002 20k 360 225 8.6 Yamaha 2t
Marlin 2011 19k 120 200 6.8 Evenrude
etec HQ
Scorpion 2001 22k 385 250 8 Yamaha V
All prices are in Euros, not knowing one make of boat from another it would seem to me that the Marlin is the best bet as it is a lot younger, engine newer and less hours ect.
Any help on making my decision would be gratefully received.

hi Frank
you really need to post some pics of the craft lots of guys will favour one boat or another but it's down to condition, spec etc for them to give an opinion, some very keen eyes on here will give you the best & honest feedback.
nothing beats seeing it in the flesh & a play if possible
good luck in your search

I agree... although Brit Built RIBS are generally higher build quality and Hyperlon....I'd forget the Marlin from what I've seen of the ones over here ...Hence the price difference!

Thanks for the replys ,
The spec and photos for each boat can be seen :
Cobra http://www.car.gr/9966176
Scorpion http://www.car.gr/10023309
Merlin http://www.car.gr/8521732
If you right click on the spec page you should come up with a translate option into English.
Its a lot to ask to go though the above but apart from the nice seats on the Corbra they all look the same to me !
Any help much appreciated

Hi,
I am going to Athens tomorrow to view these boats, so any advice on the differences of quality like which one is a BMW and which one is a Skoda , and what to look for would be very helpful !

hi frank
personally i would go for the cobra out of the three not from an expert's point of view just it's the one i like the most.
interestingly there's an article in power boat and rib of a cobra 9.5m nautique with a favorable write up if you go on their website there are lots of boat tests you might get a test for all the ones you have picked i think you can pay online to read an issue the cobra is in issue 141 june/july 2017 sorry i can't be of more help.
had a quick look on powerboat & rib scorpion get a good write up too
good luck jeff

Agree with that. This one has been languishing in Inverness for years.

Perhaps he doesn't actually want to sell it. I sometimes think that when I see boats posted here...

You could be right, as much as I wanted to sell the former boat, I was still sad to see her go.
