Help! What anti foul do i put on Hypalon?

We are biting the bullet and want to anti foul the rear of our tubes in black anti foul as it gets so much weed over the season.

Does anyone know of the type of anti foul we should use on Hypalon? Brand, price, source etc

We normally use blakes powerboat stuff for the hull. In white.

Hi Paul I put UNO strait on no primer as you can remove it easy at the end of the season as you do not want build up of AF!
Alystra from Ardfern has been doing it for years and it works.

Found this, it is specifically sold for inflatables, neoprene and hypalon. But i can't find it in the UK. GRRRR

Yep thats it. It does not come of applied for years no problem. If anything on the tubes you don't want something that you need a blowtorch to take off!

Very sharp.

Normally they just retube or replace the boat. Due to cutbacks in these times of austerity they won't stand it this year, so we have to invest ourselves.

I've used the Polymarine stuff. It definitely works, but didn't stick too well. In fact by the end of the year most of it had come off. I will try it again this year and be a bit more aggressive with the sandpaper first.

Erin, to be honest, i expect most of it to come off by the end of the year, just like the antifoul on the hull, as long as there is no weed!

I don't mind reapplying each year as it is then doing exactly what it says on the tin... oh no, that's Ronseal

As Jambo said, I use International's Uno - mainly because it's stocked locally and the navy blue is exactly the same colour as the tubes and it's cheaper than some of the others. I cruise at 23-25 knots and it stays on all season and keeps the weed off - though I do get the odd small barnacle.

I didn't prepare the tubes at all, certainly no sanding. Pressure with a wooden scraper (I've used a kitchen spatula) or old credit card on a firm tube will deflect the tube a little and get it off reasonably easily, ready for a fresh coat at the beginning of the season. BTW it is available in 750ml tins. One of those lasts me three applications. (Tubes only - the hull a/f is supposed to be white )

Just glad to know others are putting a/f on the tubes. We use blakes white on the hull and we have black and yellow tubes, so using black a/f. Got one litre.

No probs. I'll be interested to hear how well the Polymarine works at the end of the season. Blakes white seems to be much whiter than the Uno, but I'm not sure it's stocked locally in white. I might give it a go if I can get some.

I think different a/f paints seem to be more effective in some areas than others. Here, Uno is middling to good. Not sure about Blakes.

Paul, we use 'Safe Boat Skin' on our RIBS which are afloat in Dinorwic virtually all year
During the Summer Months, ie May- Sept we do, when time permits whip em out an wipe em!
I must admit, during this period they are used very regularly which also helps to keep the shiot at bay
Hastily bunged some on the Aircraft (for the first time) when we launched in Sept
Brought the boat out in Dec and just hosed the hull etc and it all came off lurrverley and we will recoate this week just before we launch
We have used it on our plastic boats too
But as I said we do whip em out during the Summer 'growth' period about every 6 weeks just to make sure all is smooth on their bottoms.
I,ve had boats off the Gazelle over the years , it's a very 'lively' place ref weed growth etc etc, I know where you are coming from, or-- where you aint going, wot with the snot I saw on yer rib last year!!
I just looked back on previous posts about SBS, it seems there were a few folks who didn't rate it etc, just saying it works for us
Getting back to the Menai
In my experience of the place, no matter what you coat yer bum or tubes with you will get growth about the waterline, there is so much life in there.
Must say Ive never put antifoul on tubes so I can't comment there
Had a 5 metre by the slip in Menai years ago, just used to retrieve every couple of months and jet wash it in Brittania garage

Yep, we're on the low spring tide mark sometimes if the mooring is laid that way, so we dry out occasionally.

Found Blakes excellent, used it fir 3 yrs now. Looks very good on the hull when rollered on. April to oct, v little use, No weed whatsoever and no barnacles. We get it from the canal boat chandlery in Nantwich, Cheshire.

Jesus, that is one clean boat! Looking very nice.

We use the blakes stuff too on the hull. How is yours so shiny? Or have you only used it below the second chine? Not so shiny down there.
