I stand to be corrected but I suspect the answer is probably yes ! I believe that just about the only place you could open up a rib is on Breydon Water .
Here's the rules......

http://www.broads-authority.gov.uk/_...laws1992-1.pdf

There are places such as Oulton Broad where motor vessels do race and various water skiing stretches but there yet more rules to comply with if you fancy any of those , and yet more rules still about size of wash etc.....

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Launching on the north coast doesn’t look appealing so these lakes look better for the kids [emoji6]

It's been some years since I boated on the Broads, but my family still live in the area. AFAIK Breydon Water (very tidal, not very scenic, stay in the channel) is the only place where you can exceed the speed limit. There are (or were certainly) water ski areas where you can exceed the speed limit at very specific times and places while towing a skier. Aside from that, it's 4 or 6 mph everywhere including Oulton Broad. (Despite the powerboat racing there). If you want to go fast, you need to go to sea!

If you launch from Suffolk yacht harbour you can go up and down the Orwell and right next to the harbour entrance is an area for water skiing so no speed limit. The rest of Orwell is 6mph
