High Winds

Apparently the IOW ferries were cancelled today due to high winds ! Was anyone out around the solent today? How bad does it have to get for them to cancel the ferries?

Littlehampton

well we took the Parker 900 Baltic out this afternoon and I would not have wanted to be in my 630 diesel rib . The waves were big and the seas were deep. The Estonian chaps needed some practice cos they insist on leaving for Dover/Calais tomorrow morning. I will be on the pier with my camera and will post some shots. I am still hoping they will change their mind and leave on Tuesday when the weather is to improve

Depends on the ferry - the Fast Cats may be good but they can't operate in the conditions a normal ship can. Also the Red Funnel things are a bit top heavy and are open front and back.

Red Jet working no probs. Ryde Cat and Hover cancell easier as they don't like the rough and have poor shelter alongside.
Was mighty windy - someone was bouncing along happily in an orange 6ish rib. looked fun, may have a blast tonight if i get sorted.

AND IF MY OIL HAD TURNED UP>>>>

all the ferries, cats and even the hovercrafts were running from portsmouth to the island. Was proper choppy out there tho. Going down to Old Portsmouth tonight to see ABN AMRO ONE come in, in the dark now as her ETA is 22:17. Should be good though.

Anybody else going down to the hot walls to see the boat come in?

Pretty calm here all day amazingly - 10-15knots of wind from the NW. Getting better tomorrow however, 30knots or so apparently from the SW, shame it's gonna be raining, or I'd be out.
See the electronics thread for todays video.

Bloody windy in the sound this afternoon. Apart from commercials, counted only 7 boats out. Four J80 sail boats and 3 RIBs..including the Ribeye. With 10-12ft of swell coming around the western end of the breakwater it made for interesting practice but great fun. Anyone else out in Plymouth today?

Went from Cowes to So'ton on the Red Jet once in F6-7 when it was rocking from one hull to the other in a rather exciting manner! The skipper stuffed it (water all over the front windows) just off Calshot which was nice

We ended up going from hamble to cowes and then on to Portsmouth. Was great fun in the following sea - got a bit wet though!

Not looking forward to going back the other way today...

A Windy Day!

I took delivery of Aries IV yesterday.

My daughter and I went for a spin with "Mr. Scorpion" at around 11:00, just outside Lymington ...49.7kts on the GPS!!!

Quite a good beginning really. Should improve when I can burn off some of that fuel!

Pretty wet in the PM, when we ran up the Western Solent but the boat handled superbly.

Here at last!

Chris.

Excellent news, Chris!

You'll need to change your profile now... 8.1 hull with a 250 Etec if I remember correctly?

Aries IV

Thank you for your kind comments, CT01 (Charles?) and Richard,

I took my wife to see the boat on Sunday but we couldn't even take the covers off, as the rain was torrential!

Hoping for slightly better weather next weekend, although I really need to spend some time programming things and familarising myself with the electronic equipment, so we may not really get to use the boat properly for another week.

Still - Summer's coming ... or is it already here?

Best wishes,

Chris.

(Keep up Richard ... it's 8.5!)
