Renting a cottage in the South Hams, or other parts of South Devon is probably the way forward .......... plenty of very decent holiday lets and some with river frontage.
I disagree south bay Brixham is excellent and there is space there to leave your trailer and prices are reasonable

I agree entirely (I live their too!).
South Hams/South Devon is the way to go. I'm based in Torquay, and the majority of the time I head west towards Dartmouth, Salcombe etc. Stunning scenery and fantastic boating area.
There’s always “the other Western Isles” Pembrokeshire. Islands, seals, birds, fishing, dolphins, sheltered waters, beaches......
