honda 50 hp 4 stroke stolen
hi all a quick word of warning to all with boats with outbords in the north wales area ,i had my honda 50hp 4 stroke stolen last week along with 2 other outboards,(a suzuki 90 and a marina 75) they simply bolt cropped the stern lock off, chopped through the steering cable removed the control box and unmounted the engine. the police told me they are having a huge amount of similar reported incidents in and around wales, our boats are within a secure boatyard fitted with all sorts of anti theft devices and cctv which they covered with prop bags, it is believed to be one gang and are working a large area please please please be warned!!!!
i am now looking for a new engine, in particular an etec 60 evinrude or if any one has other ideas to push a brig 450 falcon max hp 60 and max weight 112kg or if you know of anything for sale i would be interested
thanks
Andy

May be wrong but there was a Honda 50 on eBay last week from Pembroke that was for sale with no controls and the seller knew nothing about it. Always makes me a little suspicious. PM me for more details as I don't think it's fair to link in open as it may be completely genuine
Would you spot your motor from pics ?

Sorry to hear that Andy, just as a matter of interest, who is responsible for cover of your engine is it the boat storage yard or your own insurance ?

my own insurance covers it (towergate mardon) the boatyard is part and parcel to the caravan site where we are and is a recognised insurance approved storage

Does that mean then, that their own insurance does not cover your boat for theft whilst being paid to store on there premises. Sorry if it seems a silly question but it is something that I have always wondered when storing ribs on secure premises, who is responsible etc.

No not a silly question I always wandered the same
We pay a fixed ground rent for the caravan which entitles us to use the boat yard at our own risk at no extra charge (as long as there is space)we wouldnt get the ground rent any cheaper for not using the yard, its a bonus that we have use of it and a good saving. the boats have been there for years with no problems theres 2 secure gates, cameras and a security patrol, supose if someone wants somthing bad enough theres no stopping them!

been there, got the tee shirt
what we learnt from it all is that it's your insurance that covers your boat/outboard where ever it is, even when you take for service/repair, and you should let your insurance know where it is, we tell them even when it goes in for service, they are usually happy with an email. our honda 150 was stolen a few years ago, the insurance, towergate mardon, were very good about it all, but we had all of the service documents up to date etc
i hope you get sorted

Yes - it will be your own ...unless the yard can be deemed to be liable through not acting reasonably - ie leaving the gates open , keys in the boat overnight during service and all the other daft things that could happen - then you can claim they are 'liable'.......

Hi,
sorry to hear about your engine, I had one stolen myself a year ago. Towergate Mardon were excellent but before accepting the insurance offer, remember to add on the cost of items which have been damaged such as battery cables, steering etc. 'My' assessor had only mentioned the cost of the outboard and missed all the ancillary items.
Good luck.
