It doesn't really need flushing. Yes ok it helps in an ideal world, but cmon, its not fundamental. We have had engines for 30 years and never flushed as left on a mooring. Never had any problems as a result.

I think you guys will be fine for a few weeks.

I suppose if we dont get rainful we wont get a choice as stand pipes will come in. The images on the news of Bewl Water certainly doesnt look good.

Flushing the engine is a process of maintaining it in good condition. Its maintenance. How much water is needed to flush though? Surely you are only replacing the salty stuff with some cleaner stuff. So maybe 4 or 5 times the volume in the engine. At a guess < 10L?

Well many people will run the engine on muffs for long enough that the thermostat opens. Using a hosepipe at full blast that could be 100-200 L, if you wait to get home and the engine is cold.

Spoke to a few water companies it appears;

1. Filling fresh water tank with hose is OK
2. Flushing engine out with a hose (attachement to engine) OK
3. Cleaning boat with a hose NOT OK

I tried to point out that using a bucket rather than a hose with a gun on the end would probably use more water but they didnt get it. I can wash my boat down in about 1 minute with a reasonble spray, but with a bucket washing it down I can just see using more water as lots would be wasted. Just had an idea, perhaps I will get one of those pressure spray things for paint and fill it with water instead. LOL
