Today I went out to a pollution incident in a marina.
When I got there the whole surface of the marina was covered in a thick coating of red diesel.
After a bit of investigation a small cruiser seem to be the culprit. Turns out the bilge had a bit of diesel in it from a leaky tank, the water level had also increased in the bilge setting off the float switch and dumping the whole lot over board!
Total clean up costs are going to be over £5,000.
The boat in question was covered by a well known specialist boat insurance company.
When the owner rang them he was told her insurance wont cover the clean up costs!
They are talking to their Bank Manager now.
It might be worth checking your policy to see if your covered for something like this.
