Those old Yamahas are amazing, just concentrate on the impeller!! Great engine, as long as it’s had fresh water flushed through regularly......,.....otherwise it’s getting a bit long in the tooth!!

I have a 1989 hull, dry with perfect tubes - good hulls are out there so why spend 8K?

If you're committed, this thread is worth a read: https://www.rib.net/forum/f8/avon-sr...ect-55763.html

It's been well looked after, winterised every year with fresh water, just needs a bit of a refreshing. I also need to repaint the canopy and lower unit because they're technicolour and it makes it look a lot less sharp

They are great ribs - after a lot of years with them in the classic seating arrangement, my last trip was from Northney Marina on Hayling Island around the Isle of Wight. Great day out!!!

That first picture you posted looks like the pontoon at the Pandora. Is it a local boatyard in Cornwall who's quoted for the work?

Triggers Broom springs to mind again
Have you seen the 1700 miles in a small boat series (Round Britain) series on YouTube??
Now that's a tidy outfit!!.. if the Searider is your Bag...only I did hear it may be up for sale..?
I'm sure you'd enjoy the programme either way it's high quality production values interesting stop offs .....and liesuly pace make it a real treat.
Anyway Good luck... Can't put a price on nostalgia!

In those days Avon were world Leaders...what a shame like so many British firms they Sold out and took the quick dividend.
PS in one of the episodes he buys a pair of original "as new" seats for it

I also thought of triggers broom. The trouble is the searider is so simple that it doesnt take a lot for it all to be replaced!

The last searider I had literally crumbled when I took it apart. The transom was rotten and sodden all the way to the bottom. Hull was separating from the transom and deck at the back corner and the main part of the V in the hull had a 4" hole in it.

By the time you repair everything, there will be nothing left of the boat I am sorry to say.

Sensible says get a really nice second hand one.
Money is no option will leave nothing left of the original boat...

take her out one last blast, take videos pictures and make memories. I had the same with an old avon sib. they are like old dogs, its hard to let go!

I'm confident in the integrity of the hull that's about it, we very rarely beach it, no smashing it into rocks or anything. But I'm tempted by trying to fit a dash and front seating into a modern searider

Have you seen the Avon Searider Owners Group on Facebook? Loads of SR4s and they seem to love them.
