the reason I said handy for a Scorpion owner is that is where Scorpion are based.

Your better off keeping your boat on dry land, the water isn't really kind to a rib. The Haven Quay has an efficient launching system (negative lift forklift) and some waiting pontoons right at the end of Lymington harbour.

i agree
dry land is best and cheapest for me
however if i had a nice pad in port solent or similar i would probably like to have a berth in the marina so i could pop out at any time
that would be heaven for me i think

Scorpions owners are not all loaded, i saved up . However it must be nice to ring up and have the boat in the water, my missus hates launching and would pay the extra just for peice of mind...me i dont mind, prefer to spend the money on beer

I live at the top of Calshot spit and still wouldn't put my boat there My Gemini 6mtr was nicked from here and the experience with the police and the quality of the cctv capture was awful.
Perhaps if you don't mind chains and wheelclamps all over it but even withstanding all that ag,trying to get your pride and joy back onto the trailer as a passing ship kicks up a 2mtr swell-Not again

Jimbo I was being tongue in cheek. I too was a Scorpion owner and believe me was not at all loaded. Mind you that Richard B bloke I sold it too..........
Haven Quay, which IIRC has a considerable waiting list to get into, offers the full service drysailing experience and much like Scorpion themselves I believe have a more than adequate and suitably well healed customer base who are happy with their services. Alternative dryberthing arrangements in the Solent I would think are about the same level of price e.g. Hamble Point, Poole boat park etc. Drivers Wharf is cheaper but a little less salubrious (or at least it was last time I was there which is a year or so.) Calshot is cheap and a good slip but personally its too open and lacks security for me to want to keep a boat there.
The best storage solution is of course to get it for free. Its worth tapping up mates with farms/business units/big gardens etc. I was very fortunate that a ribbing aquaintance allowed me to keep my boat at the back of his factory unit for nowt. Other alternatives might be caravan or car storage places.

How Much
Its a very handy place to keep the boat, We can phone up on a friday and they wash the boat down then launch it fr you so it all in the water and ready to as soon as you arrive etc, they are very good and with graham Jelly and dave crawford in the same yard its very easy for us to have the engine serviced and the boat well looked after, not sure how long the wait is but i did hear at one point it was 3 years. This may have changed though.

Ha Ha
They wouldn't let me join Hythe Sailing club cos I had a RIB and not a sail boat. They knew this cos I was kind enough to donate my Services, Rib and fuel for Rib Rides
during their open Day one year. I tend not to do charity gigs any more
So then Chris P are you gonna propose Chris JL for membership. Also please give Tim my regards
