Exactly. I'm not a particular fan of either programme but then again I suspect the target audience is 14 year old boys, I know my nephew loves both shows.
Lets not get too critical here, next you will be saying that Top Gear is not a factual motoring programme.
It's just entertainment

Exactly. The OP was made not to promote BG, but rather because it nicely showcased a friend's rib and my favourite stretch of coastline . However, seeing as we're working up a nice lather getting the boot into Bear, I'll add my size 10:
That dead sheep was planted by the crew - Boo! Cheat!

Whats happening today boss? "You see that big feck off rotten sheep that looks like its been round the block a few times? Your going to carry that to the middle of no where so some one else can stick his arm up it".
Bollocks to that for a life.
Top gear, its factual. If you go round corners to fast with a caravan they'll tip, as will double decker buses!

I don't.
Of course he may be just acting, playing a part for the camera. Down at the Spar in Abersoch it's possible he's nowhere near as irritating as his screen persona.
I wonder, does he ever cook the food be buys from Spar?

I was at the Nurburgring a couple of years ago & my instructor told me all about the Top Gear challenge in the Jaguar diesel. Bad news I'm afraid Mr C didn't do it in the time he said.
Like I said it's just entertainment.
BTW I met BG at Ribex this year. I have to say that he is much smaller than I imagined. After a couple of Ciders I reckon I could have him

I went up to collect my RIB from Pwllheli one afternoon, to find a blue Delta tied up alongside and a bloke and his lad sitting on my boat, chatting on the phone. Turns out it was Mr Grylls and his son - my boat had been plonked (by the boatyard) into his spot. Anyway - had a chat with him, nice guy, seemed very normal - very much not the guy on telly.
I don't generally watch his TV shows either... although I did watch the paragliding one. His mate was quite annoying...

He could well be the nicest bloke in the World - it's the hamming it up on camera that gets me - it's a shame cos it could be a good programme if it wasn't for that!!!
Some of the true greats are the most modest people around - people like Sir Edmund Hillary - Sherpa Tenzing - Bil Tilman etc etc.

Most of his stuff is sold to the US market, hence the slightly OTT delivery.

Couldn't agree more - though if it's mostly for the US tv I suppose that's understandable.
The other guys you mention, and all the rest who've achieved great feats of survival, endurance, courage, etc., did their thing because 'it was there', 'for Britain', 'to prove to themselves it could be done' or just 'why not?'. They weren't doing it to make a TV show. If any, that was incidental. BG, on the other hand, is making TV shows. If he sells them he's a success. Hillary and the rest of them are/were on a different plane altogether in my opinion.

I read that he'd bought it. I think it was an artical in the financial section of some rag, he detailed his mortgage on the island and where his income came from.
