Hypalon and duct tape
We used gaffer's or duct tape (we're not sure which! I think duct, he thinks gaffer's) on our hypalon tubes to temporarily hold the tent poles supporting our boat cover to stop pools of water when it rains.
It was only intended to be there a few days until the hypalon fabric and glue were delivered for the permanent solution.
But now the storage site has (unexpectedly) closed due to lockdown (didn't close last time) and I'm worried that the gaffer's/duct tape glue might damage the hypalon if left for weeks.
Does anyone know?

yep gaffer tape disintegrates over time leaving the glue and bits of cloth, makes a mess I would take it off to save work when the glue arrives

I don't believe it'll damage the tubes but it will look crap as it fails and leaves glue and bits behind

Wot the lads have said[emoji106]. The tape won’t damage the tubes per se, but cleaning off the residue may damage /scuff the tubes.

Autoglym (and others) do a great adhesive remover which I have used on my own RIB....you will not damage the Hyperlon Tubes at all .....UNLESS you use abrasives!

Thanks everyone. Glad to know the gaffer's tape glue (yep, now persuaded gaffer's not duct) won't damage the tubes. Permanent solution now arrived so just need to wait for a dry, calm day to install.

Hate to be that guy, but what you are using definitely sound like duct tape (at least in the U.K.).
Qualification: I work freelance in the (tattered remains of) the events industry, so I get yelled at if I use the wrong one.
Gaffer tape (designed for events/film industry) - Matte in colour, resistant to heat, leave no residue but has less adhesion, designed to be removed easily. Proper gaffer tape cannot usually be found at DIY stores and is much more expensive.
Duct tape - shiny, not very heat resistant, very strong adhesive but leaves residue and disintegrates, designed to be permanent. Can be bought very cheaply from DIY stores.
Doesn’t really matter, but I’ve never had proper gaffer tape disintegrate, if left it just dries up and falls off leaving no residue.

Every day’s a skool day. I always thought gaffer & duct were one & the same.

Thanks, InlandAlez. I used to work in West End theatre (albeit in an office based role) and my husband was in the film industry so I have no idea where this particular role of tape came from, hence the confusion!
Think you are right but that this is a very cheap form of duct tape! (LOL!)
