Hypalon colours

Chris from Henshaws very kindly sent me some offcuts of "Military grey" and "Light Grey" Hypalon so I could experiment with a new logo to glue on to Pigs Ear..

However I am a bit flumoxed on the colour of the Hypalon that Pigs Ear's tubes are made of as they don't match the Light Grey. They appear to be slightly darker and a slightly warmer grey. They have recently been cleaned with Rib Revive so its not dirt.

PENNEL & FLIPO

According to the colour chart Neptune Grey is the next darker grey however I think this is going to be too dark. Other than that the only thing I can think is perhaps Ivory.

Bearing in mind that the boat is circa 2003 then could the tubes have been made from Hypalon from another manufcaturer with slightly different colours? Not sure who else would be used...

I built some of the tubes for the Osprey's then when Gary Mirley was in operation but I only used the Pennel Orca.
Is it not just natural fade?

Yes this could well be one of your tube sets as it was built around that time.

I suppose it could be that they were Neptune grey and have faded to a lighter shade..!

Other manufacturers from then were Chiorino who stopped hypalon manufacture a few years ago. There was Contitech who I believe were bought up by Pennel. They did a grey but you could tell it apart as it had a plastic feel to it unlike the Orca.
Do you need to match it exactly?

I want to replace the two Osprey Logos on the front of the tubes. THey were screen printed and the ink has all but gone.

I am planning on cutting the Osprey Logo out then putting a darker colour sheet behind to give a logo that will stand the test of time !

I guess the only option might be to reuse the two current patches. as they match the tubes.

Whats the best way to get them off cleanly, just heat & thinners ?

Best to use a heatgun, get it nice and warm and it'll peel off.

I'd be interested to see the results of that-the exact same thing has happened to the logos on my Ballistic.

Chris, if you would be interested then I may be able to laser cut hypalon for you as was done for ITR.

When I was at Eurocraft we made laser cut Osprey logos and names for both of Roys boats "In the Red" and "Making Waves".
We used laser cut hypalon in two colours and inlaid one into the other, with both then glued to a backing patch rather than just using one piece laid onto a backing piece. This looks (IMHO) better and removes the need for intricate buffing
The original Osprey logo patches could probably be reused, any remaining ink should clean off with a wipe with a toluene soaked rag.

Yep and lots of other things besides.

It may require some adaption of the design first though, to make sure there aren't any gaps or anything but its definitely possible as seen on ITR, they're very neat when done properly as Dave says.

Picture attached of the name at the front, I can't find a shot directly facing the Osprey logo at the back but you get the idea. It is very clever because the grey seems to lie flush with the outside, I'm not completely sure how it's been achieved.

ITR is slightly different, in that the grey forms a border round.

This one shows it fairly well if you zoom in.

I would love to get hold of that Vipermax logo in Hi Def, I've got the Osprey Inflatables logo but not that one.

We could make them with or without the border.
The border looks okay at the rear but doesn't work at the bow due to the upward sweep of the strake.
