Hysucat

Hi all, I'm wondering if there are any HYSUCAT owners on here and what their thoughts are on the boats?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Diverdad, Yes Ive got one.

I bought it at last years boat show and so far have loved every minute of it.

We bought it to use in the Med exploring Corsica, Italy and Sardinia and for diving / waterskiing from.

At the moment its here in the UK where Im getting some much needed boating experience before taking it over there.

Anything you need to know just shout.

You won't find many owners because there's only a handful of Hysucats around, although there are probably more of them in South Africa where they originated.

People who like them rave about them and don't understand why anyone would want an old tech monohull, but they've never caught on over here and as far as I know the only ones sold have been demo boats.

There was a user many years ago by the name of Charles. He had a 6.5 and absolutely raved about it, but was much less happy when he "upgraded" to an 8m boat. He posted loads of pictures but unfortunately managed to delete them all in a fit of pique before he left the forums in a strop!

Saw you moored up in Plymouth. Beautiful piece of kit. Angled engines looked great.

Hi HUMBER P4VWL, I kept an eye out for you but failed to see you sailing about. ( was there any sailing in that lack of wind)

We had a fantastic three days exploring the coast. Felt a little out of place moored up in Polperro amoungst the crusty fishing boats But they were all friendly and wanted a chat.

Looe, Dartmouth, Salcombe - all brilliant. Pasties for lunch, flat seas for cruising in the sun and to top it off we spent 20 mins watching a pod of Dolphins jump around us and zoom under the boat.

It almost felt like being in the Med. Ive seen more ripples in my cup of tea.

Think we may have passed you too actually, heading out of Plymouth Queen Anne's Battery Marina at about 4:30-ish on Sat?

If it wasn't you then there's another one in Plymouth. Serious looking tool.

Probably was us

We were there Fri, Sat and Sunday. Starting to wonder why I came back now - the weather is still perfect.

When I get some pics from the missus' phone I will post some up.

Hysucat

I saw you in queen Anne's on the pontoon on Sunday, opposite my friend's father's boat "Alice Lisle". He's on the pontoon off your stern, further towards the exit. Name is Gordon, say hi!

I haven't heard anything from his old 'friend' JF for a while.

I wonder if he ended up in Chas' biltong shop.

Ha ha - no, not really. Wizzed about at 50 kts, but still had the missus on board screaming her head off.

Plus she kept looking at the fuel flow rate on the plotter and had a breakdown when it started reading over 50ltrs an hour or more. Then she started swearing in French when she realied that was just one engine

It had a little more to go and was full of fuel, so perhaps with half a tank and just me on it would do over that.

I will find out sometime soon for sure.

We spent most of the time cruising about at 40kts - which was very comfy and not too expensive.

Thanks for all the replys chaps, I'm looking forward to the pics of Trimix's Plymouth trip.
I'm looking for something a little smaller perhaps about 6.5m, there is one for sale up in Cheshire at the moment. it has twin 50's so it wont be as fast as Trimix's.
Do they have under deck fuel tanks?
How much do they draw when not on the plane?

Thanks
Lee

Ive had my 6.5 stealth for 5 years now and love it, its out full of divers off the coast of Norfolk whenever the weather allows.

Mine has 4 deck tanks in the helm which is handy for me as I can keep independent fuel supplies for each engine and can remove them for filling if required.

With my twin 60hp EFI fourstrokes my navman fuel flow meters indicate 18 litres an hour per engine at about 25 kts. Top speed is 35 kts if i havent got divers and kit and 30 fully loaded.

I love mine and so do the divers who come out with me, the ride is very smooth and dry.

Happy hunting.

There are a few differences between the 6.5 and my 8.5.

Mine has two independent tanks under the floor. There is also a lot of space for kit and stuff. I bought mine with diving / cruising in mind, so the large wide space in the bow is perfect for kitting up or having lunch.

Mine gets on the plane about 12-14kts. So Ive not really cruised about much without it being on the plane. Cant recall what is uses that slow.

At 25kts it was using about 15 litres per hour per engine if I remember correctly.

(Ive got some magazine tests I can email you if you want.)

Which more or less brings you back to the magic 1L/Nm figure.

Thanks Hoops/ Trimix, do you protect the material for the seats when kitting up. How/where do you secure kit when underway?

Do you have any pics of your boats?

Thanks
