I have a proposal to make,

I think it is a good idea to post each one of us a map of our home town, you know just to tell each other where we are on the globe.
My home is near LAGONISSI

It's a very interesting idea Batfalcon. But I am afraid on your map I need some help. For instance, opposite the town of Lavria seems to be a small island called Greece? Is this right? I need a geography lesson because I thought Greece was part of mainland Europe surrounded by lots of small islands NOT called Greece.

Maps

Brian,
The map you see is from http://www.mapquest.com which whever you zoom in enough, writes the name of the country at the bottom right corner. In this case it is written on this small island, which by the way is called Makronissos. (in English "long island").

To make things even clearer

Here is a map of Greece. Some of southern Aegean islands are not seen here, including the island of Crete.
(The next step at zoom out shows Greece rather small and the islands as dots)

OK I will give it a try.
I live in S/W England-just to the east of Plymouth near a small town called Modbury.
My boat is moored at Mayflower Marina in Plymouth Sound.

Anyway Michael, it is not that the thread was unsuccessful. It has just not succeeded (as best we hoped) YET.
I some suspect people may have dificulty in creating a map and may be worried about copyright etc.
The idea itself I think is excellent !! Well done.

Brian,

Thanks for the support. I pin pointed Modbury, but I can't find Mayflower marina. Is it showed on the map ?

Thanks again,

I live in Portishead which is on the Bristol Channel

A new marina has recently been opened there (no slip-way - yet! ) and there is a new Travel Inn so it could make a good overnight stop for anybody - interested let me know and I'll get more details

Sorry Michael, Mayflower is too small to show up. It is roughly where the "P" of Plymouth is.

Bravo, THIS is a map for sailors.

By the way, are these waters available for swimming or not ?

There is more than 1 answer to your quetion Michael.
1. The water is very cold even in high summer
2. It is mainly a military harbour so it is very busy and therefore very dangerous to swim in most areas.
3. Some divers are allowed in certain areas but you should have full drysuits always.
4. The harbour is very deep in places with very strong and dangerous currents SO.....swimming, especially for you lucky people who are used to the Med. is pretty much a no no.
5. Having said all that some hardy souls do swim close to the shore in certain restricted places. Basically, they are mad.
