If I sold it running as is this would be a great purchase....if I refurb the steering this winter then it will be a fantastic purchase.

last weeking after freeing up the steering tube, my son and I set about removing both the outboards ( without an engine crane) this a is a balancing act....a bit like balancing a 130 kilo wine glass that has no foot on it.
In reality as long as you are organised it's not too difficult, but as it was 28 degrees.....it was hard work.
I removed the optimax from the donor boat first and lent it upright, before removing my old clamshell mariner and putting it on the donor boat ( for transportation purposes)
then easy as you like, the optimax was fitted to my boat.
This is as far as we got really.
I have posted a couple of pictures and the first thing you will say is " well that ain't fitting under the A frame" and you would be right. Fortunately the donor boat has a much taller A frame, so I will swap that over too.
This weekend I'm going to go get everything connected and do a few checks including making sure the vaporiser is clean inside and I will fit a new water separator onto the fuel line. Hopefully we can then see if she runs and how well.
fingers crossed.

Great news - always the best moment to have it turn over for the first time!

There is hope Ken.....she is hooked up so I sat her in the bath and fired her up.....smooth as butter....well smooth for a two stroke.

When Ken and I looked at the outboard before I purchased it, I had hope for it, because the vital signs were good.....but there is no substitute for the first time you connect everything up and turn that key and it bursts into life, and not only did it run....it run well.
I run her up in a water butt and 5 mins in the thermostat opened up and a strong tell tail appears. Obviously there is no substitute for a shakedown run...so next weekend I will get her on the Trent.
I was surprised how smooth it ran...not forgetting it's a two stroke.
So far so good.....onward!

Looking good, fingers crossed the trent trial goes well. You have taken a well judged gamble and used your skills and some great advice from beamishken to get closer to your goal.....to get some sea time.

Test Run..... I took it for a run one the river last weekend. lt fired straight up and ran lovely but as soon as I tried to push it a little a beep would sound and when I backed off it would stop. I knew the two stroke tank was low due to me waiting for delivery of some premium dfi oil from quicksilver, so I put it down to this.
Fast forward to this weekend and I took her out again with a full tank of oil. I got up to around 4000rpm and the beep came back??? I have a brand new water separator on, and the there is an excellent flow by the tell tail.
The only guage I have is the Rev counter and that is analogue....so I'm not sure what the problem is.
It will go up to around 22 knots and then the alarm sounds and it cuts the power.
The sad thing is I was hoping to take it to Cornwall with me but I have run out of time.
Any ideas folk?

Your going to need to hook the engine up to a Digital Diagnostic Terminal (DDT) to see what is triggering your alarm everything else is a guess !

I may try and get it hooked up in Cornwall....problem is I leave for work Monday morning and don't return until Friday and we go on Saturday. I'm hoping it's a bad sensor....but like you say....I need the ecu reading.
cheers.

It maybe worthwhile starting another thread with the DDT wanted heading, a quick google shows ddt scanners available for just over £300 you might find someone with one lying on a shelf they no longer use that they may sell or even loan you. I've got a mercury rinda scan tool I could have posted to you but I'm prety sure it wont read your engine (unless someone else knows better).
Hopefully someone can help you out with it.

There is a marine workshop in Newquay, I'm going to give him a bell later on, to see if he can get the codes read.
I did notice that the rubber flange between the airbox and the throttle body Is damaged...I don't think that will help but I'm not sure it would trigger an alarm.
The outboard runs super nice though and I will be honest I expected to have to deal with little niggles....but optimax being optimax there is so much more that can go wrong.

It could be as simple as that rubber leaking air & assuming it has an airflow sensor it may not be seeing what it expects so spits the dummy out. The downside of going to a dealer is paying each time its read can soon get spicy.
Fingers crossed its something simple
