They could just have been a styling feature to differentiate them from other SIB's. The pro's and con's probably outweigh each other and getting rid of them reduced the unit cost without, I suspect, reducing the price.

Just feel the negligible on water benefit of the extended floor tabs are far outweighed by the problems they create.

Fair enough. If they are hated then they become a sales liability even if they have performance benefits.

We'll never know that for sure. Little trim tabs on larger boats can have a good effect. This is known.

>>>Someone decided they were of benefit and after prototype trials decided to include them in the original design, or save money and bow to convention as is the case now
I'm more with Guy... at the back of a fag packet design meeting in China someone said this would look cool and it can be promoted as a benefit... and then the customers spent years paying for that decision in expensive wobbly transom legs. I would be amazed if they built a tabbed/non-tabbed prototype and actually sea trialled to prove any benefit at all.

A lot to be said for the above
I mistakenly purchased two items from china last year widely advertised on face-ache ( fortunately only a few hundred pounds ) but both scams, the items were nothing like advertised and a complete rip-off, eventfully got most of my money back after 6 months from pay-pal, that was after many hours on the phone and numerous emails - the sellers probably have a high percentage of sales where the purchaser can't be bothered to fight for their money back - nice!
Appreciate the above has nothing to do with boats, however, to me it says it all about a certain country's limited ethics - I'm not the smarted guy in the room ( ) but lesson learnt

Anyway whatever the tab plus/minus hope Spidermatt's T38 proves just what he wants. The cost of those special transom wheels was probably the only detractor for them being the goto easy to set up value SIB... hope this new model is well made and fully regains the crown.

I was similarly caught out by a tempting FB “sponsored” advert. Luckily it was only a few quid. I’ll never buy anything from a Dropshipping ad again. FB marketplace on the other hand is now my “goto” for buying & selling, rather than eBay.

#metoo - Paypal were very good and gave me my money back. With hindsight, it was too good to be true.
I'm always nervous that my 80+ year old parents won't be so lucky.
Apologies for the thread creep.

Just seeing the gurnard and his trips has got me excited about my planned dive trip to Oban in June, that is if Nicola gives us permission!
Hopefully we can get out diving every day in our 6 m tornado. I do have this wish to get round to see Fingals cave, it’s a long trip from Oban with plenty of fuel, we just need the weather. Who’s done it in a rib from Oban?

Not done it in a RIB davej but myself , Jeffstevens, and Highland Haggis have done it from Oban in SIBS. I tried to get there by 2.75m F Rib a couple years ago but it was too rough that day. But it is very possible in such a small boat
Im hoping to do it again very soon, as if all goes to plan, Im moving house next weekend to live in the Oban area so I can keep boating during lockdowns. Enjoy your trip its a great area and RIBS often go right round Mull from Oban (calling at Fingals Cave) in one day. Its around 130 mile trip if I remember correct.

At the end of the day IMO ....It's all about the location ....and the company....regardless of size
....They are all small when it's white wet and wild!

Bril bit of film, lovely.
We just need to cross everything for some decent weather, last September we had one day of great weather when we dived the Melton in loch buie, it was a magic day, unfortunately for the rest of the week we struggled but got our most days and did some great diving including up in the sound of mull. We will be there 12 to 19 June and base our rib in dunstaffage marine, with maybe the odd start from puffin divers to top the tank off.
Last year we saw, eagles, dolphins and seals, no wild haggis. Super place can’t wait to get there.
