Icom ripped off in Pwllheli

Oh bo***cks,
A friend has just sent his Medline rib over to the Isle of Man just for it’s safety.
He has kept his rib in Pwllheli in North Wales for many years now without any problems but it seems that in the last few weeks some tw** has decided to make some money on the forthcoming boat jumbles and has ripped off his VHF radio (Icom 501) and the car stereo. During the theft the W***er decided not to unplug the DSC unit from the VHF (the DSC unit being useless unless you have the software to de code the MMSI from the unit) but to cut the cable making the DSC unit useless.

This brings me to the reason for the post. Does anybody know if the cable can be replaced by Icom or A N Other, has anybody had this sort of repair carried out, If so please PM or post it could save John some well earned dosh.

Give Icom a call they are a really good bunch down their and one of the engineers whom you will speak to will actually be able to help you.

I had a tour of Icom recenty and the set up is a hands on speak direct to the people that fix your machines type none of this automated queueing rubbish with someone on the other end that cant help you or is in bombay.

Thanks Dom

Jon Brooks from Icom has been intouch this morning and has confirmed that the DSC unit can be sorted.

Now we need a few lads to sort out the Bas****s who ripped off the VHF and did all the damage

payment will be left in a brown paper bag

There ain't many....

......Medline II skippers around, we're a little like Rocking Horse S**T. Sorry to hear of your probs, I'm sure there wold be a few others who'd like to meet these chaps for a quiet little chat.

Wilst in Abersoch this weekend a pal called me to advise he had been made aware of a Medline I reported found in a farmers field with the wheel clamp still attached but minus the engine ! With several pals all with Med I RIBS I made a few calls but could not get to the bottom of it.

Did anyone hear the same story.

Anyway - what plans do you have now for the Med II ?

Hi MeMe

John (Crusoe) is now in the sun for a couple of weeks but his medline is now in the isle of Man, I have started to right the wrongs and get it ready for his visit in the next month. His intention is to take the Medline to Bangor for the rib raid this year, last year he was crew for me on the Prosport. I will be at the rib raid after our Holidays spent cruising up to Harris (to see the bosses brother) and a trip out to St Kilda, so by the start of Aug we should be well ribbed out. The Medline made good time and easy going of the trip to Port St Mary 2 years ago, will we see you this year?, a warm welcome to all ribs at the Isle of Man Yacht Club (taken over by ribbers now )
