Identify missing diver

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_west/4324786.stm

I hope nobody knows him but just in case......

Very tragic - especially for family and friends.

"Police are trying identify the body of a man clothed in a wetsuit which was found on the south Wales coast.

The remains, which police said could have been in the sea for around a month, were found by a passer-by at Worms Head, Gower, on Saturday.

South Wales Police said they did not know the man's identity and said he could be from Devon, Cornwall, or even Ireland.

Officers said the man was wearing a distinctive black and grey wetsuit.

A statement released by the force said: "Early analysis of the man's body suggests that he may have been in the water for up to four weeks."

The statement added: "The body is around 5ft 10ins-5ft 11ins and was found wearing a black three-quarter length Gul make wetsuit.

"There are grey bands under the arms of the wet suit, a "Gul" motif across the chest, and the word "Gul"' running up the back."

Of course may not be a diver - just because he's wearing a wetsuit.

yep probably not a diver as gul wetsuits tend to be used by surface watersports not divers, still does not reduce the tragic loss.

This is grim stuff, always wondered why one of my instructors told me to write my name on the inside of my wet/drysuit. Condolences to those for whom his discovery willl ease their loss.

Definitely not a diver, sounds more like a surfer. We get two or three a year killed on our north coast. Almost always novices, occasionally an experienced surfer gets into trouble when his board hits him on the head, but this is very rare.Having said that I'm currently sporting a beauty of a black eye from surfing yesterday. Can't believe that this guy isn't on record as missing. It's not as if he's a homeless down and out. They're allergic to water. His suit would suggest that he is a holiday maker or a infrequent water user. No surfers with cred wear Gul these days especially shorties.

Now identified

A body in a wetsuit washed up on the south Wales coast has been identified as a missing man from Reading.

Matthew Engbers, 44, was last seen at his home on 20 September, when it was believed he had travelled to Cornwall.

Feelings must obviously be with his family.
