If you had 10k to spend what would you buy?

If you had £8k to £12k to spend on a Rib, what would you do?

Buy a recentish second hand Ribcraft 585 ideally with an Opti or 4 Stroke on the back.

Buy an old 5.4 Mtr searider, strap a new 90 HP Yam to the back, get a new trailor and some electrics. You don't get a lot for £10000 in the boating world.

And even if your boating budget starts at 10k, it never ends there!

Damn Biggles, you beat me to it....

Actually, I'd buy a full 5.4m searider package on Ebay that I could use while I waited for the new motor to arrive and recoup half the cost of the searider by selling the original motor when the new one's fitted.

For some reason SR5.4's seem to sell for a lot less than the sum of hull+motor& gear at the moment.

IMHO if you're putting babies and a dog on board a boat you need a cabin and a more enclosed cockpit than a rib can provide.

where are you planning to keep it (on the water or on a trailer - if so what will you be towing it with)?

The kids will only go out in good weather, and not for long, as for storage, out the water on the tralier.

I'd be inclined to agree. We have a two year old and only take him on the boat when its nice and calm. He doesn't appreciate a face full of spray! And although he can talk reasonably well for his age he never tells us he is cold (even when he starts to turn blue!). When he is on the boat he sits firmly on mummy or daddys knee and that can only last for an hour or so at the most.

There are plenty of people on here who would (and have) sung the praises of seariders and ribcrafts and both are very capable boats. If you want to see / try / get opinions on lots of ribs then its probably worth going to RIBex in the middle of May.

There is a lot of personal taste involved too. I personally prefer a rib to look a bit "tough" and am not a major speed freak so I prefer more traditional looking boats to either the modern sleeker designs or the more "mediteranean" designs.
