Thank you for all the comments which all seem to be centred around the vat. I think the vat element is clear , its the additional "12%" which is the real kick in the guts, for the pleasure of having the numberplate on the side of the boat!
The truth is not many are up to speed with the complexities of having the boat lawfully on the water post brexit!
It's 1 for the marine lawyers I feel!

We've had stock heading for Luxembourg stuck in Calais since Christmas.. it's the absolutely wild west out there at the moment and anyone who says things are going smoothly is talking out of their ass.

I think your experience is borne out by the road haulage association , 60% less trade going back to Europe , that's not a hiccup or teething problems , its an act of self harm. Lets hope when the fog and cover of Covid lifts, that some reality kicks in and we can reduce some of the friction to trade , but it seems some of these extra costs are hear to stay.

It is indeed a painful one and I think most of us will feel your pain. Good luck, I hope you get good accurate advice from an informed source to mitigate the impact/cost of new rules. Like all commodities, the boat market in the Uk will have to adjust with the ebb and flow of supply and demand .

Nothing is ever straight forward in Spain. Also if I wanted to bring it back to us in the future then I would have proof of vat payment out there.

If you are a member of the RYA they have a legal/tax department that should be able to help. If not a member it is only about £50 to join- could be worthwhile.

I would be incline to say Brexit itself was an act of self harm but let's not go there
We're in the process of setting up shop in the Netherlands to reduce some of the friction. Maybe I could start registering boats for people there too

Before everyone stocks up on the popcorn let’s keep this to a boat specific discussion rather than a wider debate on the pros and cons of leaving the EU. Thanks

Will British built boats still be certified/ plated in accordance with the European RCD?
