Importing a RIB

So the boat I had order is looking to be significantly delayed, so im looking around again.

I have found something bigger with more HP along with being more capable and a slightly more favourable layout too. Down side is it would likely be October / November and its in France.

Where do I stand on bringing back? Whats required in the way of papers and at what costs?

An advice gratefully received.

It seems like your struggling to buy a boat to suit without a substantial wait can I ask are you looking for something very specific which is making it hard to find?
20% vat to add to cost from europe into uk

Would anyone know if you just sailed it back from France?

Looking at Highfield Patrols, have first din option / reservation on a 660 with Honda 200 but arrival is unknown.
For less money, I can have a French Patrol 760 with a 300hp Suzuki.

RIBase
The VAT on a boat of that price is a large sum.

I’d risk it for a biscuit.

I suppose you could have a friend bring the trailer back and pay the duties on that, then drag you out of the water at the Dover side. Seems like a fair comprise with the tax man!

Sneaking a boat in under the vat radar seems great on paper until a few years down the line you try to sell it & the first thing broker or buyer asks is for proof of vat status.
Id have thought there would be equivalent or better boats around in the uk if your prepared to shop about. I certainly wouldnt commit to buying a boat at the end of this season when the likelyhood is something suitable will probably turn up here before then

Several years ago Nautibouy of this parish and Andre brought a boat back from Parker in Poland via France. They did it all legally and above board, but still had a welcoming committee from Customs. Given the increased scrutiny on inflatable boats crossing the channel since then I wouldn’t be at all surprised if you got attention.

The problem as explained to me by a rep at the boatlife show is home markets have grown due to covid and they can't keep up.....and don't even think about a European built rib as again explained by people in the know...most RIB's are built in the Ukraine and they we're struggling before Putin went full on Bell end at them. The Grand sales man said i would love to sell you a boat but he can't because it hadn't got one to sell....maybe stick with your order.

What’s the deal these days now we are out of the EU and the trump tax levied by the EU on marine leisure craft coming from the US? Importing from the US a more viable option? As for importing from france how confident are you they will A meet the delivery date and B price won’t change between now and then? Also if being exported can’t you not pay the French vat and only pay the U.K. vat? As they are both 20% the cost is the same?
