In your experience......

Looking for views from those that have bought new ribs.

When a manufacturer gives you an aproximate delivery date. How much longer in peoples experience would one expect over and above the given date. Just looking at what to possibly expect. All views/experiences gratefully received.

Regards,

Tony

For most people, 2-6 weeks. For Codders 12-18mths

Seriously, it depends on builder and what time of year. All should aim to give you a realistic delivery date and stick to it. Most will probably fail. It's a cottage industry and other similar excuses.

ask him how many weeks late before he gives you discount and then you have a realistic answer.

That's probably the best answer, and get it in writing!

If I where wanting a new RIB then I would tie the company down to a specific date, particularly if they wanted money up front. I would have to instist on a basic contract for the delivery and quality of the product. I've read too many stories of people that have fallen out with their RIB builders and resorted to court and losing money, not to mention the time it takes.

Need a contract

I suggest, on a major purdhase there should always be a written contact. Included in this contract should be a "late delivery clause" which includes a % discount on the total price for every day/week/month late. Be careful, the term delivery needs to be clearly defined. If the supplier will not sign up to reasonable terms then beware.
Regards, T.

Quinquari Marine offer commercial customers a fixed delivery date with a £1,000 per week penalty clause for late delivery. Whilst the number of leisure RIBs they build is relatively small and late delivery payments are not so generous, the company prides itself on meeting target dates.
