inboard fuel tank

i have a 6 m zodiac with in built fuel tank
am told its now full of rubbish and should be replaced with plastic outboard tanks.
anyoe have experiance of cleaning the original tank out. dont think it can be removed for cleaning though as the consol is part of the moulded floor.
