Incident at Puffin Island/Anglesey

Don't know much about it but a fair sized Gin palace on the rocks and sunk, showing as the tide dropped.Click image for larger version

Suffered Engine failure towards the end of last week and drifted onto the rocks and was then holed. Mayday not heard by CG, was relayed by a tour boat. Crew taken off by a tourist RIB.

RNLI unable to save vessel.

Ugh. I was up in Lake Tahoe last week and they had a bit of wind, 40+ mph, and I saw one ski boat upside down on it's mooring (didn't have phone for picture) and heard there were two more on the beach.

Wonder if the engine was linked to electrical fault, as I suspect the anchor windlass on these things are all power driven?

It's being lifted in the next day or so I believe. Other than to save the mess, surely is a write off.

It does make you think that even if anchor is powered, you could override/lift it from windlass and let it out in an emergency.

I can't imagine there isnt a freespool option, over ride on the windlass to drop the anchor, hauling it back in would be an issue but then that's no worry until help arrives.

we watched the salvage crew working on it this afternoon, looked like hard work in today's heat, good to hear it's been floated off and that nobody was injured during the incident, hindsight is a marvellous thing 👍Click image for larger version

they looked like they were trying to get it back on its keel so they could fasten the flotation bags to each side, working hard pulling on a turfor winch 😳

it's currently beached at Gallows Point, Beaumaris, looks a sorry mess, no idea what's happening with it, but it's a reminder to everyone just how insignificant we are when we're out on the water, even just around Puffin Island .........
