I already have a boat like that one. The boat is the recreational version which is heavier but fast. This boat has been taken through some VERY ROUGH seas during last summer (force 7+) and has jumped up and down on waves doing 40 and 50 knots at times with full load. Nothing went wrong with it. Nothing moved, nothing broke, has no cracks on the hull or the transom and the boat is still going strong!!

I recon that the racing version being constructed in the way it is will be faster than the one I have and basis the average times that I checked in F2 class last year and the comments I have heard from SAfrica when they tested the boat this one is a lot faster than all those boats that raced in F2 last year. So is fair to say that it has a chance to finish if nothing else.

But what do I know about it???

What you need Manos is a boat with the JF logo on it

the only problem looming could be complications with insurance, the sad thing is that this is just the sort of thing they need to become even more shifty, and have even more excuses not to pay out in the event of a genuine claim!, this isn't good for anyone (exept the insurance people)

CAT B and CAT C

Does the Cat B or Cat C thing got to do with wave hight rather than anything else unless you want to cross the Atlantic or go round the World??

If it does is not that of a big problem. Is it??

Just asking the question to start a debate going on this very interesting subject.

The problem is this is the start of limiting your use.The dreams will become unrealstic and I dont thnk its fair.The end user will IMHO get less for a none compliant vessel.The end user is going to be the looser.The problem is cos I am not in the Trade in the normal sence,at present then I feel strongly about saying something about it to those I like in the hope as a collegue they dont loose money over it. I suppose I should realy leave it as I have taken what precoutons I can for myself, but still feel that the fellow boaters should at least be aware,when buying into there own dream.Maybe I will become a socal worker.

Nevertheless the question has not been answered STILL!!!

....and the question was

Is the main difference between Cat B and Cat C boats the wave height limitation (i.e. Cat C boats cannot be at sea when wave height is over 2mtrs) and the coastal and offshore waters limitation?
(Forget all the other staff about flooding the boat and stability tests etc for Cat B as this is a details that comes with the Cat classification of the boat.)

I recon that if this is the difference then most of the people (I know at least) will be indifferent whether their boat is Cat C or B as they do not intend to cross the Atlantic or venture it into the Pacific neither they will be foolish enough to go out in force 7+.

The attached is from the Greek Meteorological service for small craft http://www.poseidon.ncmr.gr/ and shows that today wind force in the Aegean and the Med is force 7 veering to force 8 and wave height near the coats line is less than 2 mtrs and in the middle of the sea will reach just 2 mtrs. So the question is why should any one want to buy a Cat B RIB instead of a Cat C??

But is this the actual thing or is it something more??

Does any one know. I mean REALLY KNOW!!

Thanks Manos for your new found interest the answer is Yes.Sorry for not answering sooner but it was 1.30 am on saturday night.As far as not being interested then I assume you buy a boat and you want to use it whereever you feel you want to,If your not interested in going offshore,like round ireland then it doesnt matter if you have a cat c boat.

I understand the sarcasm here (I thought you liked debating in a constructive way).

You know that I am interested in the Category system and what is going to happen with it as I am looking for a cabin RIB (possibly it will take an iternity to find one but ...... I am looking) for the Med.

If Cat C or Cat B makes no difference then I will concentrate in obtaining the best value for money cabin RIB I can find irrespective if is Cat C or B since it does not matter. However, if the Cat B and C was an issue then I would have looked for that rather than value for money.

Now, if I try to discramble your reply, am I to assume that it makes no bit of difference what is the Category of the RIB provided that you do not intend to cross the Atlantic?? I think this is correct ............. or not???

Also a small question (only for educational purposes): Round Ireland is it correct in saying that is not considered offshore provided you do not exceed 3 or 5 miles limit off the coast?? or am I wrong??
