Insurance.

Sorry to start another thread on insurance but I could do with some help.
5.4 SR with 115 2 stroke, having a hard time finding a ok priced insurance. Plus reading up on the web I have found they can still pull out on you over the engine size even if you stated it at the onset of the policy.
Any ideas? Or does anyone wanna swap for a 90

john, you may have a issue there, its over the recommended hp for the craft, they may insure you but if a issue arose, they could pull out easily

It's turning out to be a bigger issue than I thought mate. I don't mind paying what I have to pay as long as I know I'm covered!

At a guess this is early 80's or older going of the colour. But no plates. Could do with an insurance company/broker who knows there stuff.

You could speak to the people at;
Holsworthy Insurance Service - 3 Bodmin St, Holsworthy - 01409 254286.

I use them for my boat insurance and our dive club boat insurance.

I've just asked Porthcawl about this situation (considering a 150 for a 5.85 Ribtec but only plated to 120) and had this reply

" The size of the engine does not really increased or decrease the insurance cost as we would rate a RIB and the overall value of the vessel and the speed of the vessel."

I then asked if this applied even if I exceeded manufacturers plate rating and had this

"Thanks for your e-mail, we would rate the vessel on the total sum insured, if you have any worries I would ask for a letter from the boat manufacturer advising that the engine is acceptable, you may have to have the transom strengthened."

Thanks folks, I'm running around in circles with this. From what Kernow has been advised I may have to go to Avon. Or just go on blind faith and pay the figure of £140-150 I've had off two companies today.

£140-£150 isn't bad. Mine's more than that.

Yeah it's a good couple of quotes I got. Allot less than I was getting last week. Do ya think I'm being a little over parnoid about the over powered issue? Always found it's best to dot the i's and cross the t's when it comes to insurance.

I reckon £150 is a good price - like I said as long as you have told them everything you should be fine . Worth making doubly sure they know - like write extra notes on the proposal , send them some pics of locks/ wheel clamps / the boat & engine ( or at least keep a few with the docs so they can see & have proof of what you are doing you should be fine. ( and they help in a claim to prove value & condition)
