insurance

I've jsut bought my first rib (4.9m Bombard, Suzuki DF50) and will be launching it mainly from the hard in Brightlingsea (no jokes please!). I need to get 3rd part insurance. Any clues as to good cheap insurance? How much should i expect to be paying.

It's you who must be........

Joking. Third Party Insurance with a nice bit of kit like that, come on don't penny pinch at this stage in the game.

Most I know tend to use Mardon Insurance on 01743 232688. Good, reliable, competitive and well versed with all things nautical.

If you want 3rd party only, http://www.basic-boat.com may be worth a look. Otherwise, fully-comp "off-the-shelf" policies like Craftinsure look like good value, as long as you fit the criteria (basically under 50mph) - I guess your boat does. For other recommendations do a search as this has been discussed many times before.

Meme, why shouldn't someone consider 3rd party only? If the loss of the vessel is acceptable/affordable then 3rd party is the way to go... but then for a few extra £'s you can cover several £k's worth of craft.

Insurance

I called Mardon Insurance in Shrewsbury recently and they informed me that they no longer insure RIBs!

Hi I called Mardon yesterday to renew my insurance with Boat at £8,500
I can leave it on a tidal marring without chaining it up & I have also added a 2.65 Yam SIB + a Yamaha Malta fouled at £600!
Which gave me a total to pay of £241.16 not bad me thinks.
Nick

I think that's....

bloody superb when one considers I'm paying about the same for a similar ammount but kept in much "safer" conditions ! When I come to renew I'll be asking for some discount

Just had a quote from craftinsure.com - £200 cheaper than one quote. I can't believe how easy it was to get covered - they didn't even want address! Has anyone had any problems claiming and back up service? Seems too good to be true - which is usually true!!!

My rib

You lot have an advatange and I guess you would not insure me for love nor money given my lack of expereince and developed death wish....

however.....

for 6.5m and 150 optimax on trailer in locked Berthon Marina in Lymington with no no claims bonus can anyone tell me what I should be paying?

The three quotes I have all come out at around GBP (can't find a pound sign, am in Prague on a Czech keyboard!) 340.
