Insurance - Caravan storage site

The Nashers Revenge has been stored on it's trailer at a very local Caravan Club approved Caravan storage centre for @16yrs now.
I don't have room for it at home, and cost wise it's VERY competitive in comparison to a marina compound.

There are wheel locks on two of the 4 wheels, a hitch lock, and it happens to be right in front of one of the CCTV cameras.
The compound has security fencing all around, Number plate recognition cameras, and I need to get through two key fob operated security gates to get to it. The main gate being a heavily built sliding one, followed by a lifting barrier to the sub-compound.
The site is also only open during daylight hours.

There are probably 20 other boats on the site as well as over 200 caravans and Motorhomes.

When I first put it there my insurance company Towergate gave me a discount as it's safer there than being at home etc.

But they've told me today when I tried to renew my policy that their underwriters no longer cover boats stored at Caravan storage centres.

During the conversation, the specific reason appears to be if it's stored next to a caravan, the inference was it could be covered by exception if stored on it's own or next to another boat.
That can't happen where it is as several other customers would need to move around too.

Has anyone else come up against this recently?
Has anyone with a boat at a Caravan Storage centre recently renewed and can point me in the direction of a company that will cover?

That doesn't make sense ! A good secure storage facility and they will not underwrite your boat insurance.

I have my boats in a caravan, motorhome, boat secure storage facility, very similar set up

I use GJW Direct !

Always have used GJW for ever!

The quote system for GJW is online, they ask where you normally store the boat, hope that helps

We’re insured with Craftinsure and had our rib stolen from a secure storage facility back in June this year.

No real issues with the claim and their only requirements were the rig had a wheel lock, hitch lock and outboard lock. No quibbles with location and get the impression it could have been in a lay-by and still covered if you could prove it had the required locks attached.

We had comprehensive photographic evidence of boat condition, equipment, locks etc and Police crime ref. Another boat, telehandler, and some smaller construction plant also taken so consensus was the site targeted by an organised gang. Nothing ever recovered so theory was probably shipped out of country, Ireland/Eastern Europe being favourites.

Reached a fair settlement but felt it took a surprisingly long time at over 3 months as the insurers appointed an independent Marine Investigator to handle the claim. Frustrating at the time but in hindsight think Craftinsure handled it all ok.

Thanks for the comments, and PMs.

After my initial post I had to get out and about so was planning on spending some time this evening looking at alternative options online.

However, it's all sorted now for me personally, but it should serve as a heads up to check your cover if you keep your boat at a Caravan Storage centre.

I had a call whilst in the car from Towergate.
The lady I'd been dealing with had been in contact with the underwriters having listened to the measures taken at the place I keep my RIB.

They have agreed to continue cover because it's an approved, registered site they are aware of, possibly because they also insure Motorhomes and I believe it's Caravan Club approved.

But we all know some of these sites do not have the levels of security that mine does, and may not be approved or registered with the insurance companies, so please do check at renewal time that your Boat is covered for where you keep it.
