Insurance Renewal - Big increase with GJW Direct

Morning all

Just got my annual rib insurance renewal through from GJWdirect, nice 20% increase in premium (no claims by me).

Obviously gave them a call to discuss, nice chap on the phone was very honest and confirmed they were just increasing premiums across the board to improve their bottom line.

Any recommendations on other reputable insurers welcome.

Thanks

David

I'd stick it into a comparison site and see - might be cheaper to take a new one with them then roll over the current

A friend of mine is a marine underwriter, he says the whole marine insurance industry is on its knees. They’ve been hit my massive payouts over the last couple of years due to hurricanes. I rang him when my premium went up by 10% (not insured with him, he doesn’t touch anything under £5m[emoji849]) to find out what was going on. His reply was “only 10%, you’re lucky “

Hi Vipermax, Agree with comments - I insure my 5.4 Searider plus our inshore coastal rowing club's skiffs and premises with Euromarine Services - very astute and know boats and marine - our did not increase in the Autumn. 01843 603 345. Best wishes for 2021. Iain

Renewed mine with "Porthcawl" in August 20. I think it had gone down.

Mine did too (November 1st) however while worth a call I have heard others have had increases as an underwriter has left the UK Marine market so might mean there is an increase.

When i was with GJW they used Allianz who i am insured with now but i have heard they have eft the market.

I renewed with Porthcawl - minimal increase, so it's across the board, I'd try to get a few quotes faced with that level of hike (unless your premium has been historically very low).

My Craftinsure policy for the big Ribtec stayed exactly the same when it renewed in Dec 2020.

I seem to remember that they’re not the most popular on here but I’ve been with Towergate for many years and with one phone call they stay competitive.
I’ve shopped around and can’t get significantly better coverage/price.
This is the exact opposite of car insurance which I have to change every year!
