Introducing the Venture Cup

Hi Folks,

Just wanted to take a moment to introduce you to something special that's happening next year called 'The Venture Cup', which is a major powerboat race running from Cowes to Monte-Carlo.

You might think that this should really sit in the racing section, but one of our challenges is to really work hard to move this away from powerboat racing and into the mainstream (ie: appeal to all, rather than the 0.0000000001%).

We've got more than a few Ribs taking part (scorpions, goldfish, entirely new designs) and we're going to try and make it as inclusive and exciting to follow as possible.

If you'd like to find out more, our website is: Venture Offshore Cup | Welcome to the Venture Cup – the World's toughest powerboat race and an adventure of epic proportions. Beginning in June of 2013, fifty of the greatest powerboats ever assembled will leave Cowes in the UK and battle 2,400

...and if you're on facebook you'll find tons of info here: Venture Cup | Facebook

If anyone has any questions then I'll check back regularly and try to answer anything you throw at me

Thanks John - we'll have more boats going up all the time. One of the nicest ribs I've ever seen (Cougar Marine's 'Argentum') will be going up now in a few minutes. Over the coming weeks we'll be giving each team their own page, so lots of content to come.

I mentioned earlier that we really want this to appeal to folks that don't normally have any interest in either powerboat racing or the wider marine-leisure sector. That's one of the driving forces behind our 'SeeTheSea' initiative. In time we want to expand this out, working kind of like this:

1. We try to get fresh eyes looking at our race
2. When they're engaged we try and send them some reasons/triggers to take a look at the marine-leisure sector
3. When they respond we send them to pre-existing resources (such as ribnet).

We've no commercial reasons for doing this ....we just think it's something that should be done. Less than 10% of the UK population use the water for leisure purposes and we can be a bit of a secret society, so it's got to be a good thing to have new people looking towards the water.

It was built by Gordon that's probably the confusion.

You had better tell Gordon that as he would have supplied the information!

By the way we're entered although tubeless I'm afraid!
