Iron Boats?!

Back in the new boat market on selling my RedBay Stormforce 7.4 after 6 fun years. Hoping this fact will mitigate a stupid question (to post in an Inflatable forum). What’s this Iron Boat all about then?!!

Another Swedish brand worth a look at would be Rupert...The quality looked top notch at the boat life show this year.

What Style of Rib you looking for? & Budget?

I can suggest you take a look at Nordkapp Airbourne Ribs they are brilliant in offshore conditions.

Wills Marine Devon Sell them if interest.

Looking for a capable leisure boat (accessibility factors etc) for this old frame. Less need for a Cat B boat. Hence the iron boat caught my eye. Reason for posting here, is why would they not simply add tubes to such a capable hull? What am I missing with this boat?

Yes I noted the massive strake instead of tubes...they had one on the Wolf Rock stand. I asked the rep that if the hull filled up like a bathtub then would it still float? He said he wasn't sure..

If that strake is 400mm deep and semi-circular in profile, it would add about 125kg of buoyancy per metre of boat.

By comparison a 21" diameter tube will add about 450kg of buoyancy per metre of boat which is why a RIB will remain afloat (and pretty stable) even when waterlogged so long as your tubes remain intact.

I'm not sure if the hull was constructed using a foam filled core...like I said I did ask the question but the fella didn't know how buoyant the craft was...at least he he was honest enough to say "I dunno" rather than BS me..

I totally get the attraction of a rigid boat and if I lived in the Med I'm sure that would be my weapon of choice, but In the UK our waters and weather are very unpredictable and for this reason I would stick with a Rib everyday of the week and twice on Sundays .
