Is it worth the money

I'm looking for a cheap rib for light use mainly in a river/sheltered waters as a yacht tender with good carrying capacity.
I have recently viewed a 5.0 mt Tornado with 70hp Mercury on a trailer for £2750. The engine in a 1988 and all that Tornado can tell me is the boat is pre 97 as they didnt record serial number until then. The tubes slowly go down but eerything seems to work.
Is this value for money taking into acccount the possible need to re-tube later this year or next?
I'm told re-tubing will be circa £2000 but wait till October as noone will want to know at the moment.
Any advice or views please?

Hi mingary,

£2750 for a 1997/1998 5m with dodgy tubes?
If you spend the £2k on the retube then that's £4750 and you've still got an old motor. Given that you want to use it as a sheltered water tender, you probably don't need 70 horses.

Compare with this: http://www.ribs4sale.com/Used/860yamaha.htm

Worth the extra £750?

HTH!!

Richard you are making sense, you'll ruin your reputation....Luise will have to change here name to Mrs Erudite, stop this trend now before you spoil it for the rest of us.!

Sorry Mingary just a bit of banter between mates. Richard is right if you have to retube and newer outboards can be a better proposition than older ones.

I would however ensure that the leak is coming from the tubes and not the valves, but if the tubes are over 7 years old thay might be a bit flakey

........... and I'm fairly sure Paul Tilley could fit you in for some tubes before October if you decide to beat them down a bit!
