is my yam dead

I was out in my rib suddenly engine changed tune .rattled for a bit and stopped .wouldnt start.towed home.trying to start sounds like it is jamed. Put in to gear and turned prop 1/4turn into neutural turn key engine turns3/4 and stops again.engine is a yamaha 80 autolube any advice would be greatly recieved thanks simon

Could be Power Head Damage- Maybe you should try removing cylinder head and have a look.

Rattles before stopping usually aren't good.

Can you pull the manual start - does it still only give 3/4 turn?

I don't understand your fault description.

Does the prop rotate freely in neutral?
Does the engine rotate freely with the plugs removed?
Although you don't have a pull start cord fitted permanently your engine will be able to fit a rope round the flywheel for emergency starting.

That should at least help you split the problem into three different parts - gearbox/transmission, powerhead, starting system.

Thanks for all your help just give engine to engineer to have a look for me .i worried i would just make things worse and trying to stay optimistic that i will get out on the water before the end of summer!!!!!"!!!!'!!!!?
