>>Cambridge Outboards... have indeed been negative press about them in the past but I think this was from a very small source.

Over 30 people actually who posted their issues on here which given how small our group is in the scheme of boating is a fair amount. The thread ran for some 11yrs with continuing behaviour.

In the last four years I've dealt with them a couple of times (parts and possible new OB) thinking with the major dealerships they now hold things must be better but not really so given my experience and the dreadful history I'd look elsewhere.

Don't let fact & reality ruin a good trolling opportunity

Catch is you need to drive to Scotland to collect.
That sir is a great deal and you come with a Wilcox stamp of approval...... only slight problem is I don't have 7.5k laying around. Thanks anyway Chap.

I retested the Yamaha 75 hp 2 stroke yesterday and it now seems fixed.

If you could lay your hands on one of these I think it would be an excellent option for you rib.

There was what looked like a very good one on eBay when I was looking. I will see if I can find the link

This was the one I think but I am sure there was a better advert than this one. Make sure this is not a scam but it may be genuine. I think these 75 hp 2 strokes can be upgraded to 90 hp quite easily.

For my new 535 rib the 75 seems to be plenty of power

4 stroke is the obvious choice nowadays, I love two strokes but as you say there all long in the tooth now having had many of both the easy starting , quiet running & much lower fuel consumption make them the obvious choice. I wouldnt even consider an hpdi 2 stroke, etec opti tldi etc, far too complicated & awful to work on it was a good idea but not a great result imho.
Yamaha & Suzuki 4 strokes are my preference but I wouldnt rule out mercury either. They are easy to look after, reliable & easy to service. Looked after there good for thousands of hours.
I was looking at a Yamaha on ebay....seller Beamishken is it yours ?

Mr Fox.

It might be worth giving Cambridge Outboards a call. You can judge for yourself then. Also they often have outboards in that they have not yet advertised.

I have no affiliation to CB at all just speaking as a customer who has bought from them and had good experiences.

The 100hp on ebay looks ok but it is high hours and probably better to have the backup other dealers might offer

I have used them before for bits and bobs and up to now they have been okay.
My Plan is to purchase an older two stroke to get me back on the water , whilst saving for a newer four-stroke....I'm thinking Yamaha 80/90 fuel injection.
How's your Yamaha on the xpro? you get it sorted.

See my previous post.

Yes I have done another test on the Xpro Yam and am fairly sure I have fixed it.

I did several things: New Plugs, Repaired the connection to the temp sensor, Tightened HT leads, Changed the fuel filter and used some carb cleaner. It was ok on my test but not sure completely or indeed which of the above fixed it lol

It is a 2000 Mercury 75 hp 2 stroke asking £1,950 in Ferndown. Worth getting your wifes phone I recon.

There are a lot on facebook. It tends to be where people buy and sell but beware scammers

Those are good engines I have the 200 hp version of that. It does like to drink the fuel though

Its okay you dont need to try to put him off my 100hp yam, it's no use for his boat , perhaps if you had half a clue what your talking about you'd know why!

On the other hand you suggest 2 engines which are 15 -20 years older than my engine & ones more expensive! There is no way to verify the hours on an old school 2 stroke which wont run the same hours as a 4/anyway
Personally id rather have an under 8yo engine thats been used regularly by an owner operator & you can verify the hours at whatever rpm range its ran at than a 20 - 30 yo one that you can't verify the hours on you could be buying a high hours engine for top money if the seller is unscrupulous & lets face it your recommending probably one of the most unscrupulous dealers in the country.
Quite frankly I can't understand why you try to advise folk on what to buy when you just bought an engine that didnt work & you clearly have little clue about mechanical things.
One day your bad advice will result in someone getting their fingers burnt or even worse badly hurt.

I am genuinely interested to know why it's of no use for fastasfox's boat, as I really don't know what I'm talking about and don't pretend that I do know, but it would be good to know more.
