Makes sense as the transom does have a cut out....but I would never known it wasn't factory.

As has been pointed out since, lifted to fit the shorter transom. I think it may be on it's second set of doel fins. Neither should necessarily be a deal breaker, I was just highlighting those things. What would I infer from them? I suppose that the engine has been round the houses (no real surprise) and possibly because the boats were not giving the performance the owner wanted. Fins are fitted to provide lift and they certainly do. I have a theory that they get fitted to underpowered or poorly trimmed boats. IMHO the hull should be doing most of the lifting, supplemented by trim tabs if required for trim. I suspect that engines often have fins fitted to compensate for lack of power, to assist with hole shot. On a heavier boat, do those engines get run flat out most of the time? Guesswork, obviously. The lifted part - I just associate lifted engines with extra stress on certain parts of the engine mounting, again, being caned every move to planing.

On my Tornado 5.0 I never had to mess around with the trim....get it up on plane and we were golden....so I probably won't need those fins anyway. I will mess around with the set up on my local river, as there is a section that is unlimited for watersports.

Thanks for the info....interesting stuff.

The transom on the donar boat is as they leave the humber factory, humber for some reason always leave that little upstand on their transoms if it had been cut it would be flat the fact the engine is up the transom a little is no great surprise its probably a couple of holes up but not ridiculous, I rarely rig an engine tight to the transom most hulls run a little quicker with the engine jacked up a bit with no ill effects. Besides the fact some folk rig engines high for more top speed not all long shaft engines are the same length. If you bother to put a tape between the av plate & the underside of the saddle bracket you will find a difference of 2"+ between different manufactures different models. The fact it had a fin on & its up the transom a little is telling us very little about the engine. A bigger issue will be how the fuel system has fared standing idle whilst waiting to settle the claim or be sold. Most direct injection 2 strokes dont fare well with standing or poor fuel quality, its their Achilles heal imho but if the price is right & it gets you on the water then its better than sitting looking at the boat on the drive that doesnt go.
Probably a better bet than the 75 Yamaha for 3k being offered by the eastern European sounding guy in glasgow that looks real shady

Or, all other things being addressed, with a heavy engine can help with hole shot & being able to stay on the plane at lower throttle openings with improvement in fuel consumption.
I did consider trim tabs but space would be too tight so I have a permatrim on my own engine & it's made a significant improvement.
