Interesting point about width restriction, and whether it refers to the trailer fitting on the tow truck, or the max width including tubes.

I believe they will only recover the trailer if the towing vehicle breaks down - not if its the trailer. ,,,, I could be wrong but am sure this is what they said when I enquired yonks ago.
I am with Brittania like others and they definitely cover recovery of the trailer if it is that that breaks down

Green Flag every time, never let me down. Had the boat recovered after a wheel bearing let go on the A1. The difference between Green Flag & RAC/AA is that Green Flag mostly use contractors & they get paid by the mile, so it's in their best interest to take you home instead of buggering about sending a van & trying to get you going by the roadside & then realising an hour later that they need a recovery truck. Green Flag just pitch up with a truck & either take you home/destination or garage & you get to choose.

Thats why I took my cover out with them in the first place I think that it depends which type of cover you have taken out with them.

Green Flag and RAC have the same restrictions but by Joining the camping and caravan club or caravan club there is no limit on length as they cover the american motor camper vans

Yep like I said earlier read the small print size restrictions apply I have been in GF since the days they where the national breakdown never had any probs even sent my a wheel out to Spain where it took the AA 6 hours to move me 5 miles after sending various tech out to look at my problem even when I said it's not drivable muppets

Ariel snapped, Sunpad at the front of the boat decided to part with the screws engine decided to not rev all the way after 20 mins if perfect running and then the wheel bearing gave way on the way home!

You gotta laugh. Anyway all back safe and sound now with a few jobs in front of us. That's boating non stop fun

Neil, How did you get on, was this covered by your brake down policy or did you have to hire them?

I had some trouble with the RAC previously when I was with a friend who had the same problem, two members RAC out together and driver of the car calls up to report bearing failure an they say he isnt covered as we don't have this level of cover so I called up customer services to add the trailer cover on to my account and they told me as I have the highest level of cover I am covered and I asked the question that if my trailer causes a brake down am I covered, for example a bearing failure, and yes was the reply - Perfect, I call up to report a brake down and they say we aren't covered - lucky RAC record all the calls and they even played my call back to me and even though the operator expressed that I would have cover they refused to attend.

I am now with RAC & and Camping & Caravan club, but when it renews I may try another provider, hence the question.

Get a it in writing! They refused to recover my parents last year as they had no record of them renewing . I had tow them home. Then product a bank statement to get a apology and a free years cover.

Reading this has reminded me to call the AA about my breakdown insurance from LLoyds bank silver account to find out what I am covered for.
Have just rang them to find details and the response was that I'm covered for any vehicle that I am in and towing up to a limit of 3.5 tonnes and they will tow me to nearest Garage etc to get sorted. The boat, trailer and motor weighs just over half a ton and Vivaro must be 1.8 tonnes so presume i'm ok with this
I also asked if the trailer was covered if it broke down and she said yes.

I've always found that the cover from the AA, RAC etc was limited to size of trailer and so go through the camping and caravanning club.

Hi Steve, it was all excellent I have to say. The company is Insurance Choice. They sub contract the work to a local garage, so I guess the service may be hit and miss depending on where in the country you break down, but they answered promptly, text in 5 mins to say recover inside 50 mins

Chap was out in less than that time and when we realised the replacement parts were wrong got a low loader out in ten mins, recovered back to my home.

Top service and no quibble just got on with it

Wheel bearings done. The other side had two flat spots loads of grease. I guess taking the front bearing out and greasing isn't necessarily enough. The whole lot need replacing but how frequently? I reckon doing it annually now. It's a messy job but a couple of hours and it's done
