I was shown over one of these at SEMS today, really neat bit of kit. At £50 we would have been very tempted to get a couple because only one LJ has a PLB however they are actually £200 putting them in line with PLBs. I totally see the point of them and in the future I think they will be excellent but IMO ais take up is not sufficient to persuade me to get one of these over a full PLB. What do we think?

Ok if you are with someone else on the boat, not so good if your by yourself?
for the money - I would still want a plb.

I believe the core target market is for yachties who have AIS receiver on board and want a way to locate a MOB. It makes sense for that (or anyone else who is at similar risk and likely to leave someone competent on board).

Good for MOB , if you got an AIS receiver on board to pick up crew.

Hopefully you boat is not far away when they miss you!

Been told the range to CG station is considerable greater! it's line of sight since it uses VHF to transmit your position ...

McMurdo S10 is easier to manually deploy - I have both dummy units
