good question

If I am on my own or with friends or family I set the readout to Knts. If somebody is very impressed by speed and is looking to go faster I set it to MPH.

It doesn't make much difference to the consumption however

most race boats tend to use MPH and the courses are laid out in miles.

Being bought up with sailing boats I always use Knots but the speedo on my boat is in MPH (which I tend to ignore and use the GPS ).

If you are doing any navigating involving charts the you must use knots or you may end up in the wrong place at the wrong time

Depends who you are talking too!! - When people at work say "How fast does your boat go" they don't understand Knots - and MPH is faster (if you know what I meen)

Anyway - there was an interesting thread on this a while ago....
