Isn't there a very defined set of calculations to be done to arrive at the maximum allowable hp for the CE marking? I'd assume that's why the dilemma over the hp rating rather than any quality related issues.

You are correct, the calculations are being completed this week. It is nothing to do with quality of build what size engine is appropriate. We can't wait to get it finished and share with everyone!

I'd say the standard benchmark / expectation will be that good quality 5.8m rib will take a 140HP 4 stroke engine.

When other established other brands have this type of engine as fairly standard for the size, I'd have some concerns on the quality of the transom- at least - if the boat is rated for significantly less power or weight.

I'm looking forward to seeing a new marque on the market, but it will need to measure up to the current market leaders in order to build the brand.

Maybe this drip feeding of information isn't building the best marketing platform.

Hi, we can't confirm engine size due to CE marking calculations which are being completed currently. It is a precise calculation and has no bearing on build quality����

Aren't you missing the point that it's not the quality of the build that determines the hp rating for the boat it's down to a fairly precise set of calculations taking into account beam length tube diameter etc from guidelines from the RCD in order to CE mark the boat
It's no longer a case of a maker saying our boat can handle 150hp or whatever.
What was acceptable 10 years ago when certain ranges were ce'd may not be acceptable now as the rules may have been different
I guess we should wait and see before being concerned over build quality at this stage

would accept this 100% but surely the calculations should be part of the design criteria not some try it and see when it goes to test
I too really look forward to another top quality English built rib to choose from and wish you guys luck ,but as I was always taught "you make your own luck " and the more preplanning that goes in the luckier you seem to get !

This...and nearly all of the other posts in this thread is clearly a case of "A picture paints a thousand words"

...whilst I'm sure most members wish the New venture the very best (I certainly do) maybe holding off the Grand announcements and Statments of intent could/would be a lot more effective until You guys at Kracen actually have something more tangable and real (apart from a Nameplate) to introduce to the Ribbing world?

My 2014 5.45m CE marked RIB is rated to 150hp. Just sayin[emoji848]

Yeh I realise there are plenty out there but it's not only length that is considered. Also is it possible new ranges need to work to newer rules to obtain CE approval where previously approved ranges worked to earlier less onerous rules? Your 2014 build may have been approved in 2004
I don't know but think it's unfair to jump to the conclusion that the build is inferior at this stage

Hey guys, just a few pics as an update. The boat will be completely finished next week with full engine install. I will share the finished pictures then.

Kraken 5.8m - what's included...

All our boats are made completely in our factory so we have full control over the quality and design.

Included in the £10,495 inc VAT price is the following spec for the Kraken 5.8m

- Deep V hull

- Kraken Logo

- Tube Protection boarding patches

- D Section rubbing strake

- Looped lifelines

- 4 handles fixed to tubes

- 5 compartment tube

- Rear deck well

- Drain trunk

- Oars x 2 plus oar holding blocks fixed to tubes

- Non slip deck

- Steering

- Padded steering wheel

- Jockey console, back rest with 2 hatch panels.

Fabrics for tubes can be either Polyurethane or Hypalon although we do recommend Polyurethane due to it being 10x more scratch resistant than Hypalon and will look good for much longer.

Tube fabric comes in a wide range of colours and boarding patches are usually in a contrasting colour. We currently have Orange, Black, Blue, Yellow, Grey, Military Green & Panna White.

Rubber fittings are all black and fibreglass colour options are also varied with White, Orange, Grey and Black being most people's preference but we can make to your specific colour if required.

We also supply Outboards and Trailers and have a wide range of extras that can be applied to your boat if desired such as*

- Fitted aluminium fuel tank

- Upgraded steering*

- Stainless steel handle fitted to console

- Under deck loom

- Additional seating

We also can source anything else you may need. Just let us know.

Kraken 5.8m - what's included...

Sure the price is for Hypalon or PU tubes. The fuel tank fits into the console and has 100 litre capacity.
