The pictures show the latch after the boat has been snubbed up with the winch.
The latch catches the barb welded to the bow eye when it's driven onto the trailer. For launching I loosen the winch last thing at the waters edge and the boat rolls back till it's only held with the barb. Remove the bungee, and when ready to go drive forward against the snubber and the latch falls clear of the barb so it's free to back off the trailer.
For recovery the bungee is refitted pulling the latch up against it's stop and in line with the barb. I drive the boat against the snubber, the barb clicking over the latch then I let the boat slide back until is held by the latch.
It is not secure for travel like this but with a backup rope onto the trailer from the samson post it's safe to make it to the road prep area where its winched up the last couple of inches, strapped and chained.
