Lazy robber after east Solent and Channel ideas

That SHOULD read RIBBER but my smartphone knows better than me!!

Usually, when we launch from Warsash/Calshot we either go west to the hut or lymington or Yarmouth for the Nachos or bucklers hard etc or just round the Isle of Wight.

This year we want to “Go East: Portsmouth, Gosport, Hayling island etc.

Can you recommend pontoons, restaurants, fuel, or general good stops rather than just bobbing about for a few hours?

...
Also is it “boat soup” down there at the mo as everyone tries to get away?

Anywhere you suggest we avoid?

Thanks in advance

Wooten Creek, moor up at The Royal Vic YC and walk up the hill for some great walks/cycles or a trip to The Fishbourn Inn.

Or Camber Dock in Old Portsmouth. Tie up on the sea wall outside The Bridge Tavern. Have eats/drinks there or walk round the corner to The Stll & West pub and watch all the activity in the mouth of Portsmouth Harbour.

I was on the water Saturday & Sunday and surprised by the relative quietness of the Solent. Calshot is an easy launch with loads of space for car and trailer and is no issue for heading East, in fine weather, as its only 20 miles to Wittering. In if its blowing you can launch at Chichester Marina - they have a lock that gives access to the river and at high water you can access Langstone harbour. Chitchester Harbour has a few pubs within its bounds that are easily accessible and will make for a pleasant "sea restricted" day.
I launched at Calshot on Saturday am and it was very quiet - headed over to West Wittering and down to West Itchenor via Hayling Island SC for coffee.
Sunday was out of Lymington and over to Totland and a bit of bassing off the Needles in the early evening - again fairly quiet.

I can recommend The Anchor Bleu at Bosham and on a nice day, the bar at Chichester marina is quite good - if you ask nicely, you can moor on the outside pontoon for an hour or two.

Portsmouth Harbour:
The Lightship - big green ship now a floating bistro. Good food and nice views.

Gunwharf Quays - just by the Camber as per the comment above. Loads of restaurants etc.

Gosport Marina - the boathouse. Again nice views and decent food.

Salt Cafe - a hidden gem at the top of the harbour serving great food on the deck. You can tie up to the side of the decking area depending on the tide.

We love it there - booked up solid at the moment, this summer you’ll need about a week in advance.
