The hull that was allegedly (and disputed by Leeway) splashed from was, in the experience of the hard boat boys, excellent in its original form. I have only seen one hull and it was less than straight. However, everyone makes mistakes and IF the laminator has corrected whatever went wrong, then look at a good sample of hulls that he has made and judge for yourself. The origins of the hull “design” have been gone into at great length on the hard boat forum and it is worth reading if you are interested in forming your own conclusions.....

Yes it is a good boat. I have one which we bought in September and we have used it throughout the winter.

My only view of a Leeway rib was based on seeing this one pictured. I assumed that the "banana shape" or "hook" to the hull was a manufacturing error. Leeway have confirmed that they are all like this and it is a design feature to improve rough water performance.

I see, ...very innovative!...Leeway, could you explain this feature in a little more detail, and exactly what it does at the various speeds?

I spoke with Steve Baker about this yesterday, and he's now thinking of coming out of retirement, building a boat, and letting the mould 'sag' when it's still green, so as to exploit this new phenominum! ....He also said, have you performed the same miracle on his 25? (or as you call it, your 8.3)

We have the same design on the 4.9, 6.3, 7.3 and 8.3m and yes we have tried and tested(even at speed) the design and have 100% positive feedback in all areas of performance and handling.

we have a 9.3m under development at the moment,it will be available at the end of the season. place order now to cut waiting times and recieve our pre booked discount..

I think if you looked at our ribs, which you have not obviously, you would find it on both sides. as it was designed and built to be like it.

What has a Stepped hull design got to do with a 'non stepped' Phantom 18 running surface?

ST/BD side looks pretty straight to me.

Could you just run the theory of this design past me again, i'm a little slow at learning.

any chance you can pull that blue hull out in the light for a better look at the top chine,

such a shape could help plaining and or low, low speed plaining
could be a good thing with a 4 stroke outboard set up.

the person with the pics is not the owner of the rib.

the shape was devoleped by lots of sea trials. it gets planning with ease and with little horse power. the ribs run a lot better with it than without it...

True enough, but I have seen the boat in the "flesh" so to speak and one side appears to be "banana shaped" and the other straight (ish). I will ask the owner if we can take more photo's if you wish.. perhaps with the help of a straight edge to remove the subjectivity

I thought you said that you had cut'n shut two hardboats to achieve the shape.
