Compass (www.compass24.com) are pretty good: £39 if i recall for a compass compact which is much more comfortable than the ones all-gadjets do: I have both and there's no comparison.

If you need to buy a set of jackets for your boat - i dont think you can beat this

http://shop.lifejackets.co.uk/acatal...ed_prices.html

I was about to order a set for my boat - but ill hang on now to see if anyone else comes up with anything better.

Also - im off to the southhampton boat show in 4 weeks time - does anyone know if you can usually get good buys there - (like half price stuff)

I need a wakeboard, 4 lifejackets, a towable ring thingy, some bouyancy aids, etc...

Trago's or Macsalvors! You kent beat 'em, ken ee boys?? Just ask Kernow or Roy :-) Actually, I've usually been fairly disappointed at the lack of deals available at the Southampton show. My local chandlers ( The Boathouse, Penryn) does better. The only advantage is the amount of stuff and choice on offer.

try this-entry level is 28.99 plus postage-I've got a couple of them and they are comfy enough.

blimey - i didnt think there was such a thing - a cornish man who had never been to macsalvors.

its kind of a strange place they sell everything from tools to camping equipment and office furniture to paint etc etc...

fairly basic chandlery - wouldnt recomend going there for the latest gps or vhf electrickery but for anchors, chain, rope, bouyancy aids and so on as mollulnan says "you kent beat em"

i picked up a 5kg bruce with 10m of 6mm galvanised chain and 30m 8mm 3strand polyester rope and a couple of shackles for well under £60 - same package everywhere else was over £80.

these are only manual jackets though.

im sure its been debated to death on this forum but if your in a situation where youve been thrown from a boat - it is highly likely you could hit something on the way which in turn means theres a good chance youre going to be unconsious when you end up in the water.

how good is that extra £10 you saved going to feel as you sink and drown because you didnt buy auto inflation.

i know theres the agument about not being able to get out if your trapped in or under the boat - but you can always deflate a jacket with the mouthpiece then blow it back up again when your clear...

I agree with Roy. Considering the large amounts we spend on our boats, it's not wise to skimp on safety equipment. Personally, I only buy Crewsaver lifejackets. The auto-inflates are about £50 for an adult size which is not a great deal more than the cheapest at £40ish.

Yep I'd go along with an auto jacket, I'm looking at some solo ribbing this winter so will definately get one for that.

can you not convert a manual jacket to auto by simply replacing the manual firing mechanism with an auto mechanism?
