Lifejackets - How Old Is Too Old?

An acquaintance has a large number of NOS Challenger Interlock 275N auto twin-chamber lifejackets with integral crotchstraps still in original sealed, UV proof packages. However, they've not been serviced since 2016. Just wondering if they're overkill for pleasure boating - they're commercial grade. And, are they too old to use? Thirdly, what would be a decent price to pay for them? It's this one: https://www.crew-safe.co.uk/shop/com...nterlock-275n/

We've opened 1 pack to examine a jacket and I've attached some pics below.

Thanks for any advice!!Click image for larger version

I personally wouldn’t have a problem using one of those, subject to a basic service at home. Check the cylinder weight, manually inflate the bladder & leave overnight, replace the firing mechanism etc. Probably overkill for pleasure boating unless you’re in a drysuit or heavy waterproofs. Not sure how comfortable they’ll be for extended wear. Given the cost of a similar modern ergo type, I wouldn’t pay much more than £40 each.

Thanks Dave, that's really good info. I'll pass it on. Would eBay be best to sell?

Sorry can’t advise on where to sell. I hate selling stuff on eBay, I find it totally biased towards the buyer. But that’s just my opinion.

Nah, totally agree. I was ripped last year and nothing I could do would make eBay side with me. Cost me £260!!

Anyway, if anyone's looking for a shed-load of NOS commercial LJ's....!!!!

Serviced annually and stored in a dry place, they will last a long time

If you have too many, I would buy one from you.

Sell on hear to start IMO I know I’ll get shot down over the date relative adherence people but if it inflates and stays blown up that’s it.better with that than nothing I’d probably fit a new cartridge for piece of mind if I bought one.
