Loch Oich

Has anyone launched at the great glen waterpark on Loch Oich. I am booked for a week there and dont know if it is worth taking the boat up as the loch looks pretty small. I'm also a bit confused over the access to the caledonian canal as it seems a bit pricey. Any info would be great.
cheers mac

not used the slip. Loch oich isn't very big but if you don't take the boat I bet you sit there wishing you had.

Cost of using the canal is about 65 quid for a 4m boat for 1wk, which is the minimum. However you only need to pay if you enter the analysed sections - essentially if you go through any locks. Bad news is the license is only available from ft William or inverness.

Potential to get to other cruising for a day from that base too...

Thanks for the advice, i know you're right about wishing I had brought the boat. I may launch from Arisaig and do Skye. I know Arisaig well (from the beach) and it looks a navigational nightmare.

You can launch from Kyle of Lochalsh for Skye?

If you go to Kyle you might as well just drive over!

I guess the rocks are the worry? Due caution & all that.

If you are talking a tow to Arisaig, there's plenty to see round Loch Linnhe and athe surrounding lochs as well.

Take the boat pay the money. Loch Ness is possible in the day just.
the other way is just as pleasing. was up there last April. Hired a boat from carley cruisers, Inverness. Give them a ring at there boat yard for further information
