Lochmaddy - important

I’m not sure if we have many members likely to be planning a trip there in the next few weeks but if so, there was a significant “incident” there today and the marina is closed and will remain closed for some time. It is unsafe - so don’t be tempted by empty pontoon. I’d suggest anyone planning to visit before the 2024 “season” starts should probably contact the staff ahead of time.

There’s not masses of other options for a RIB in the area if you don’t want to anchor, so plan accordingly.

Has the ferry crashed it again? Didn’t something similar happen a couple of years ago?

Fight with a dredger. At least one of the pontoons is upside down.

I'd give the manager a job just for the most diplomatic "FFS WTF is going on" social media post I've seen in years!

Sadly they've had a bit of practice at it recently. At least it is at the end of the season*

*season is a very loose term when it comes to describing suitable conditions for boating out of Lochmaddy.

A few years back a pair of UK based WAFIs sought shelter at my local landing pontoon. It's not recommended in a blow. Being extra cautious WAFIs, they decided to use the cleats on the opposite side of the pontoon, giving the hulls more lifting leverage. in the morning, two pontoons had been flipped....

What actually happened? I gather it was something to do with a dredger.

From what I’ve read the dredger caught one of the anchor chains,
Apparently the dredging was nothing to do with the marina either.
