Why is it a bit of a swizz ?

If people don't make a profit then they won't go to all the trouble of running a show. I should imagine this year it was profitless. Heavy rain made it a ghost show.
Maybe we should direct our angst at the companies that let the show space. They are obviously making a profit.

I went to the Excel boat show last year and found it interesting enough, I went in quite late in the day and only paid £10 to get in. As for getting onto one of the big boats for a look around I could not really see the point, they are amazing beasts I am sure but I won't be buying one so why bother?

I was more amazed at how the likes of Sunseeker set up their stands it must have been a monumental job.

I would certainly not bother making a special trip to go if I am in London whilst the show is on I will pop in for and hour or so at the end of the day.

Why do RIBex charge?
Yes but you would have to pay to go to the motor show if you wanted to see more than one car in the same place so isn’t that the same thing

Is this the Kebab shop where you can have the meat wrapped in a Nan bread rather than the pitta bread most use, if it is then i'd highly recomend it as the last one i had was fantastic

Same thing applies; you shouldn't have to pay to look at loads of cars they are trying offload on you. Its a trade show.

I to can never make out why people will queue at a motor show to sit in a car that they could have looked at at the local dealer
Say a new range rover and then be talked to by some man or girl
from a promotion company who dose not know jack about the
car anyway
If some one is desperate to go on a boat they cant afford
then go to a marina and pretend to be a buyer believe me you will get swamped by saleman

I really like boat shows, not just for work - I look forward to them like mini holidays.

Having Earls Court back will be great (I hope!) I went as a young kid with my Dad and continued to go right up until it moved to poxy Excel. Certainly I shall go to both, it is interesting to see how Excel evolves.

The funny thing about the EC one though, I put myself down as an interested party as soon as the news broke, I have written emails and letters since asking for info and I have now emailed to ask about trade tickets. Guess what, no response. Wierd.

Still it is a great venue and I cannot wait to see how it works out.

Boat Shows

I guess the ulitmate problem is that the trade, apart from the big players, won't be attending both.

There is only so much 'budget' people have to be spend on new boats and bits. By attending both shows trade people will not get double the business, but they will have to pay 2 show charges in addition to Southampton.

Secondly, I understand that the Excel show is the BMF supported one, its my view that by splitting and having 3 main boats shows per year it will only serve dilute the value of the stands and the returns the industry sees.

I do agree with some of the other comments that the Excel location sucks, but as an exhibition facility it rocks!

Another vote for Earls Court

I went for the first (and last) time to Excel this year. No atmosphere and a pig to get to from the West Country. Even though every one asured me it was a bigger venue it seemed a lot smaller than Earls Court. It would be good if Excel folded and we just went back to the Earls Court one.

Personally I think the Southampton is better than the others (if you go on a good day) than the others in any case.

Doug.

Well after going to my first SBS I won't be travelling to any London Boat Show any more unless going there for a social occasion.

The benefits of Excel over Earls Court that no one seems to mention are:

1. Excel has waterfront access (kinda handy for a boat show )
2. Excel is considerably newer
3. Excel has better transport links (City Airport, DLR, close to North Circular, close to M25, M11)
4. Excel has better parking facilities
5. Excel has purpose built accomodation next door (Marriot and Ibis)

It may be a pain to get to for those of you on the south coast, but I'd imagine that the main benefit to those who actually show at the event, is that the group of people with the largest disposable income in Europe is right next door in Docklands, with the City only an extra 15 minutes away. They can literally go to the show over lunch.

I heard a buzz that the Earl's court show is being run by the guy who used to run the Excel show? If this is true I guess he may be a little bitter, maybe this is his attempt at a comeback?

In a way it makes more sense to be before christmas,

Buyers pre christmas will have more disposable income to spend on gear or gear is bought for christmas presents.

From a sellers point of view they don't have to offload all of this seasons clothing etc at the southampton show. they now have one right at the end of the year? This could mean some great 2007 bargins for the buyers
