The only benefit is the increased range, a bit quieter, no need to buy oil and the environmentally friendly bit.

But don't you think its a bit like fitting LPG to a big V8 engine. The one off expense hurts but then its gone, a bit like shipping figures where you draw a line under the Titanic and start again, and you get a feel good factor every time you use the boat rather than thinking "ouch" on a regular basis every time you have to fill it up

If my engine went bang or if/when I get a new RIB I'll definitely be looking for something more efficient - the Johnson I have now drinks so much I might as well just disconnect the fuel hose at the engine and hang it over the transom...

Spotted your post and Andys reply. we have just had in our first used 860 shearwater. last years boat with 225 optimax, posted a couple of picks for you ( cabin pick is robbo's boat but almost identicle ) lots of toys flexiteck floor now fitted £42K allot above your budget but sounds like it would suit your needs.in Bembridge if you need more pictures - demo let me know regards Jim

That's interesting as my understanding is that it's the same OMC/Bombardier engine as my 'Rude Ficht 115 which is so frugal I have found myself wondering if I have an airlock in my tank when I'm filling up!

In answer to the question posed by the original poster, why not speak to Lee at Leeway. He could custom-build you a boat with all that you require for your budget (have a look at the website!). I still love mine.

Not quite - the Johnsons are carbs or 4 strokes - Ficht is direct injection

Well I still am going around & around on this one!

Still like the cobrs, but worried by the wet hard ride??

Ribeye looks very strong contender!

But 7.5 scorpion is looking good like this one http://www.boatsandoutboards.co.uk/view/LYM044/
Would like more storage & the sub lounger but it is a scorpion!!

Any first hand experience on any? if so lets hear you thoughts!

Why not consider my new Parker 750RS with Mercruiser 320HP
1/ soft and dry ride
2/. loads of storage space just look at the console seat
3/. was it a sun lounger you wanted, well what about the top of the engine compartment
4/. at 47knots you can talk to the person next to you. Total protection from the windscreen
5/. If you are put off by diesel power then you could consider a petrol option
just tell me which Mercury engine

Putting it in to a contect you may be more familiar with the differnce between a Ribeye and a Scorpion is the difference between a Ryobi and an Elu router.

that boat looks in very good condition and the ride will be all you are looking for in a boat and the Opti 200 are very enjoyable lumps.

Id certainly buy a secondhand Scorpion before I bought a new Ribeye cos I think the Scorpion would lose less money over the next four years. But then you's expect me to say that. I had a Scorpion 6.5 for three years and it worked hard (over 1000 hours) the boat never failed to thrill but also because it was made properly it was easy to keep on top of..

Things to watch out for if looking at the boat

Have a good look at the nose (Alright Stem) of the boat where the toobs do be joining the hull Have a look to see how much abrasion is on the Hyperlon.

If it's a little bit then that's probably in keeping with the claimed hours if there is a lot of abrasion it's probably done a lot more hours

i have yet to see a manufacturers wiring job that really impressed me (apart from an extreme hardboat) and Scorpions are no exception have a good look at the wiring inside the hatch and see how rough./ good it looks


if you want new don't overlook the Shakespeare 720 as constructed by Steve the boat. They are very reasonably priced very well made and would fit in your budget. Theres a demo boat at Drivers Wharf in Southampton..... they might let you have a go

Well went to see a 6 year old ribeye & a 9 year old scorpion yesterday, they made my 12 year old viper look like new!!!

But the hole family liked the Ballistic 6.5 very much

Any one got one?

You would be welcome to come and see our wiring anyday - we use marine grade tinned cable and our connectors are the crimp and heatshrink with glue type. Everything is held down so it can't flap around in a chop - racing powerboats is a good way to learn how many ways things can fail!

Have a look at the newer Redbay wiring, pure class . I hate untidy/un labeled wiring and was delighted to see that Redbay have taken the time to detail every wire/breaker, and to clip it properly. It makes life so much easier to change and check thing.
