Lulworth Rib rides - No Lifejackets??

Stopped in at Lulworth today & was very surprised to see two ribs operating trips with no life jackets on the punters.

I'm assuming they would have to have them but maybe as its only local trips they don't?

They do not require them (despite what common sense might suggest). There has been a VERY long debate on RIBnet about it before.

Sat in alum bay today having lunch and enjoying the weather, it was good to see all the passengers on the rib ride to the needles all wearing PFD's

Looks like he's all legal by the other thread, we were just surprised that's all, especially when the operator from Poole who tours Old Harrys is all kitted up with suits & life jackets & looks very professional in comparion.

Under coding regs for daylight ops if MCA coding, life jackets have to be carried aboard with a 10% extra spares.

The fact that most of us won't allow persons aboard trips/ charters without wearing a life jacket at all times, unfortunately this method of carry is "within" rules. Explain this to MAIB enquiry should something awful happen. The time you need a life jacket is immediately you enter the water, not here is one please now try and put it on and use it,

My colleague at Southsea exhilaration rib rides who does similar to this operator of short blasts also insists on LJ,s so time is not the issue

There are 185 posts on the topic in the other thread: http://www.rib.net/forum/f30/the-lul...-19179-18.html

Since that thread reappears every year, and despite the change in ownership the issues seem the same - I'm going to close this thread and suggest any further discussion is on that thread.
